Research and Markets : Production of Turbo-Charged Diesel Light Vehicles Has More Than Doubled From 3.6m To 7.7m between 1998 and 2003

DUBLIN, Ireland--Feb. 2, 20052, 2005--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c13000) has announced the addition of A Global Market Review Of Automotive Turbochargers And Superchargers - Forecasts To 2010 - 3rd Edition to their offering

The demand for turbo-chargers is exploding, especially in Europe where direct injection diesel engines are powering more and more passenger cars. From 1998 to 2003 production of turbo-charged diesel light vehicles has more than doubled from 3.6m to 7.7m. Whereas over 10% of diesel production used to be normally aspirated, this percentage is now dwindling towards zero, further boosting the turbo market. For both diesel and gasoline powered vehicles, turbo-chargers can return lower fuel consumption, allow smaller engines to provide the power of larger ones, reduce power-train weight and help to reduce emissions.

The increased interest in super-chargers stems from new technical advances enabling carmakers to fit smaller engines that perform like larger engines, but keeping some of the small engine fuel economy. Adding a super-charger can boost horsepower by up to 50%. It therefore enables carmakers to offer a wider range of power outputs without investing huge sums in developing new engines. To date, most super-chargers fitted to passenger cars are positioned at the top end of the market, by carmakers such as DaimlerChrysler, Jaguar, Aston Martin plus the new Mini and TVR in small volumes.

Demand for super-chargers has also increased, but compared to turbo demand the figures are small. According to various industry estimates, the super-charger market will either remain static or double in size over the forecast period. This report reviews some of the key market drivers for turbo-chargers and super-chargers, and will provide you with forward-looking analysis.

This report sets out the forecast for product trends and fitment levels for turbo-chargers in light vehicles in each of the major car producing regions through to 2010, the total world market for turbo-chargers in diesel commercial vehicles through 2010 and total world market for super-chargers through 2010. It also assigns market shares to the main equipment manufacturers serving vehicle makers in each region of the world. A review of the technology in current and future use in the forced induction market is provided as well as brief profiles of the major manufacturers of turbo-chargers and super-chargers.
