Lowrider Magazine 2005 Tour Rolls into Phoenix on March

Arizona State Fairgrounds hosts award-winning custom cars, nationally
recognized entertainment and dramatic competitions as thousands
celebrate the
Lowrider culture
ANAHEIM, CA February 17, 2005; Amazing customized cars, dramatic car
"dancing and hopping" competitions and chart-topping entertainment
including local Phoenix band NB Ridaz combine for one of the country's
most unique events as Lowrider Magazine, published by PRIMEDIA, presents
the Lowrider Magazine 2005 Tour. The nationwide 14-event car show
celebrates a long-standing segment of America's car culture that has
gained mainstream awareness. What began as an exclusively Hispanic art
form in Southern California has expanded over the last 10 years to
include participants of all ethnicities. The Lowrider Tour continues
its cross-country trek as the series rolls into the Arizona State
Fairgrounds (1826 W. McDowell Rd.) on Sunday, March 6 from 11 a.m. to 5
p.m.
The car show features hundreds of uniquely customized vehicles ranging
from traditional lowriders and bombs, usually created from 1955 and
older sedans and coupes, to trucks, SUVs, luxury models, sport compacts,
bicycles and even tricycles. Lowriders traditionally feature custom
paint jobs, some in the form of complex story-telling murals. Unique
customization, often requiring tens of thousands of dollars to complete,
is a great source of pride for owners. The common thread is a passion
for making a personalized statement through customizing and lowering a
wide range of vehicles.
All show vehicles from each of the Tour events will be eligible for the
$10,000 Quaker State Championship Cup, awarded to the overall points
leader at the conclusion of the Lowrider Magazine 2005 Tour in October.
Live entertainment is a big part of the daylong event on March 6th.
Headlining performers include N.O.R.E. whose latest chart topper "Oye Mi
Canto" featuring Nina Sky is receiving national radio airplay and video
play on BET and MTV. Local Phoenix group NB Ridaz with their hit
single "Pretty Girl" is also part of the day's entertainment line-up.
One of the most dramatic visual spectacles of the show is the Hydraulics
Competition (Hop) sponsored by CCE Hydraulics. Known to many as "car
hopping and car dancing" owners and their vehicles compete using a
variety of specially installed hydraulic accessories. Cars truly dance
and hop to such extremes and heights that many often flip over and land
on their roofs. The Hydraulics Competition is always a crowd favorite.
Spectator tickets for the Lowrider Magazine 2005 Tour are available for
sale on the day of show for $30 per person. Children 10 years and under
are free with a paying adult. Show vehicle pre-registration fee is $25
and must be submitted by February 21. Walk-up registration is
available, space permitting, for $45. Hydraulic competitor registration
fee is $60. For more information on the event or commercial space
