AAA Texas Monthly Fuel Gauge Report; Statewide Average Gas Price Up Seven Cents in a Month

IRVING, Texas--Feb. 15, 2005--Texas motorists are paying more today than they were a month ago, although the upward surge in pump prices appears to have leveled off.

The statewide average for a gallon of gasoline is $1.780, up seven cents since last month from $1.707.

"Gasoline prices have remained at high levels as crude oil has traded between $45 and $50 since early January," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "The current statewide gas price is only 14.7 cents a gallon short of the all-time record high price of $1.927 a gallon set May 2, 20056, 2004. This leaves little room to absorb the usual spring price increase without setting new records."

The national average price of self-serve regular gasoline is $1.89 a gallon, up 7.8 cents since mid-January.

AAA's Fuel Gauge Report is based on data from the Oil Price Information Service, the nation's most comprehensive source of petroleum pricing information.

AAA Texas, an affiliate of AAA National, has been serving Texans since 1902. Today, more than a million AAA Texas' members benefit from the organization's roadside assistance service, insurance and financial products, travel agency, automotive pricing, buying and financing, trip planning services and traffic safety programs. Information about these products and services is available on AAA Texas' Web site at www.aaa-texas.com.
