Nissan's Child Safety Campaign Raises Community Awareness Offering Free Seminars on Child Passenger Safety

GARDENA, Calif.--Feb. 1, 20054, 2005--

"Quest For Safety" Campaign Supports Local Community Organizations and National Child Passenger Safety Week

Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) and four local Los Angeles community organizations are partnering to offer the public free child passenger safety seminars in support of National Child Passenger Safety Week.

Nissan's "Quest for Safety" campaign is designed to educate parents and caregivers at the grassroots level about child passenger safety. The first seminar will be held at Crystal Stairs in South L.A. on Tuesday, February 15; followed by two at the PUENTE Learning Center facilities on Wednesday, February 16 in East L.A. and Thursday, February 17 in South L.A.; one at YWCA of Greater Los Angeles on Friday, February 18 in Compton; and the final seminar will be held at The Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) on Tuesday, February 22 in Downey.

The seminars will focus on California's child passenger safety law requiring children to be placed in child safety seats or boosters until age 6 or 60 pounds, and will provide caregivers a hands-on demonstration on how to properly install a child safety/booster seat. Nissan will have on-hand both English and Spanish-language educational materials and its own safety engineers available to answer specific questions about child seat safety.

"Automobile-related accidents are the leading cause of death for young children. An average of six children, from birth to 14 years of age, died and 694 were injured every day in motor vehicle crashes in 2003," said Robert Yakushi, director of product safety at NNA. "We are pleased to partner with local community organizations to offer the `Quest for Safety' program and educate communities about child seat safety and the proper installation and use of child safety seats. The information provided in these sessions could help save a child's life."
