Detroit Regional Chamber Supports Oakland County Executive's State of the County Focus on Cooperation and Economic Development
DETROIT, Feb. 10, 2005 -- The Detroit Regional Chamber supports regional cooperation on the concept of a new or expanded Cobo Center. In the absence of a viable public-sector approach to this issue, the Chamber would support a reasonable private-sector alternative similar to the one suggested by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson in his State of the County address. Detroit Regional Chamber supports Oakland County Executive's State of the County focus on cooperation and economic development.

"The Chamber understands that this region needs a world-class facility that can support events such as the North American International Auto Show," said Detroit Regional Chamber president and CEO Richard E. Blouse Jr., CCE. "Brooks' idea is a viable approach. We need to look at many sources and solutions."
The Chamber also supports Patterson's Emerging Sectors Initiative, which aims to attract top companies in such emerging business sectors as nano- technology, bio-technology, and alternative energy. "We have some of the best infrastructure in place to support these sectors," noted Blouse. "We need to continue aggressive efforts to diversify our economic base by attracting these high-tech firms."
The Detroit Regional Chamber is the largest chamber of commerce in the country. The Chamber's mission -- to power the economy for Southeast Michigan -- is carried out through business attraction efforts, public policy advocacy, strategic partnerships and quality products and services for members.
