Delphi Shows Latest Safety Technologies at 2005 TMC
TROY, Mich., Feb. 8, 2005 -- Delphi Corp. will demonstrate the future of commercial vehicle safety at the upcoming Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) annual meeting held Feb. 15 - 18 in Tampa, Fla.
Delphi will display a concept safety truck that helps provide a 360-degree "cocoon of safety" at the company's booth (number 948). The truck has 14 advanced technologies that help promote safety in the front, side, rear and interior of the vehicle.
"The Delphi technologies on this working truck are aware of the road and objects on the roadway even when the driver isn't," said Steve Hartwig, North American director of commercial vehicles for Delphi. "TMC gives us the opportunity to demonstrate each and every one of these products to TMC members and fleet owners."
Some of the products on the truck include:
Workload Management - Delphi's drowsy driver and driver distraction alert systems use a monocular camera to monitor eye closures and the driver's gaze and head position. The systems help warn the driver when an unsafe driving condition is detected.
Rollover Sensor - Delphi's rollover sensor helps indicate if a rollover is imminent. The sensor assesses the vehicle's inclination and in conjunction with other inputs, such as vehicle speed and lateral acceleration, warns of extreme inclination or the potential for vehicle rollover.
Turning Assist - In many turning maneuvers, the side mirrors may not provide a sufficient view to allow the driver to "see" and react to objects along the side of the tractor and trailer. Delphi's turning assist feature will help the driver in these situations. Using a monocular camera, a wide field of view is displayed for the driver on an in-cabin screen, allowing a clear view along the entire length of the tractor and trailer.
Delphi will also display a wide range of other products for the fleet owner and commercial vehicle market. They include engine management systems, batteries, advanced climate control, powertrain cooling systems, a modular door, advanced switch technology, Delphi's windshield cleaning system, diesel test equipment and the Delphi MyFi -- the industry's first ever personal portable satellite radio.
