Codespear's SmartMSG Technology a Success at North American International Auto Show

BIRMINGHAM, Mich., Feb. 7, 2005 -- Codespear, LLC announced today that the use of its flagship product at the 2005 North American International Auto Show was an unequivocal success(1). "SmartMSG" -- a multi-lingual, distributed and secure communication platform providing communications interoperability, voice and data support, alert notification and collaboration functions -- was used by the Auto Show to assist the multiple law enforcement agencies and private companies with security operations and communications. The application is designed to support and augment incident response, emergency preparedness and response, continuity of operations and major operational events by enabling fully integrated two-way communications (voice and data) between multiple agencies, communities and first responders regardless of communication device.

Founded after September 11, 2001, Codespear, LLC is a privately held company located in Birmingham. CEO, Paul Hodges, III started the company to address the critical emergency communications needs and lack of interoperability issues as recently stated in the 9/11 Commission Report as a key factor in the deaths of at least 121 firefighters in the World Trade Center. "We are delighted with SmartMSG's performance at the Auto Show. We are pleased to offer a product that has so many functional applications," said Hodges.

Chief of Security for the 2005 North American Auto Show, Carl F. Berry, said, "As is common for events of this nature and magnitude, it is always a challenge to anticipate the various types of incidents that could occur, and the critical communications and security related measures that need to follow an incident. SmartMSG was valuable in numerous operational areas by providing a seamless communication system that enabled multiple agencies and disparate groups to send and receive emergency alerts, and communicate effectively using diverse systems and devices. This supplemental communications capability was a valuable addition to the operational and security needs of this international event."

Former Wayne County Homeland Security official Mark Snelson said, "Not only is this system the future of secure and protective communications, but it is clearly a system that can complement and ensure that interoperable communications can be achieved and maintained right now." Snelson went on to explain, "Communities cannot afford the high cost of purchasing all new communication devices. The SmartMSG system converges all of their current devices, provides public alerts and improves interagency response, thereby saving hundreds of thousands of dollars and possibly lives."
