Faulty Fuel Pump Problem Slows DaimlerChrysler Output by More Than 4,000 Vehicles for January

FRANKFURT, Germany February 7, 2005; The AP reported that the delivery of 4,200 Mercedes-Benz cars from automaker DaimlerChrysler AG was held up in January due to a defective Bosch diesel fuel pump, a company spokesman said Monday.

In addition, assembly at the company's largest plant in Sindelfingen has been halted for Monday and Tuesday because of the problem pumps, resulting in loss of production of 2,000 cars per day, according to Stephan Uere, a spokesman for Daimler.

Temporary production halts are also planned this month at Daimler plants in Bremen and Vitoria, Spain, due to the defective part, the company has said.

The defect has now been fixed, and on Friday Bosch began delivering the pumps again for the first time in several weeks.

The pumps have also affected production at BMW and Volkswagen.
