AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 4 -- The DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund today announced a $50,000 donation to the Kokomo/Howard County Development Corporation (KHCDC) in partnership with community group Partners in Education. The donation will be used to establish a scholarship fund that will be available for local high school graduates seeking technical training. The new fund will offer five to 10 scholarships a year in $1,000 dollar increments.
"Donations of this kind go to the core of the Fund's mission," said Brian Glowiak, Vice President and Secretary of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. "Helping students achieve their educational goals will benefit them and the community in the future."
The KHCDC will administer the scholarships, which will be available to high school graduates under 21 years of age living in the county. Examples of eligible educational programs include computer science, auto repair, skilled trades and mechanical engineering.
"This type of support from our corporate citizens is important to the area," said Kokomo Mayor Matt McKillip. "Post-secondary education for our young people helps to maintain a trained work force that is vital to support business in our community. This investment further demonstrates DaimlerChrysler's continuing commitment in Kokomo and Howard County."
"This is a great opportunity for Howard County students," said Greg Aaron, President of the KHCDC. "This helps tie together the community's strategic economic development plan with our efforts to nurture and grow technology jobs."
Glowiak announced the donation in Kokomo today at a Partners in Education session. The event was attended by Mayor McKillip, Aaron, President of the KHCDC, and James Holtson, Chairman of Partners in Education.
Kokomo is the home of four DaimlerChrysler plants: Kokomo Transmission, Kokomo Casting, Indiana Transmission Plant, and Indiana Transmission Plant 2.
