SAP Expands Automotive Solution Set With Purchase of DCS Quantum Solution From DCS Automotive

Automotive Dealer Management System Will Help Dealers and OEMs Streamline Business Processes

WALLDORF, Germany, Feb. 1 -- SAP AG today announced that it has purchased DCS Quantum, a leading vehicle dealer management system, from DCS Automotive, a subsidiary of United Kingdom-based DCS Group PLC. DCS Quantum will be integrated into the SAP for Automotive industry solution set as SAP(R) Dealer Business Management, expanding SAP's software offering in automotive sales and service.

Based on mySAP(TM) ERP, the solution is designed to enable vehicle importers, distributors, dealer groups and independent dealers to consolidate and improve sales and service processes and to achieve more effective collaboration. It will include capabilities for business management within dealerships, dealer organizations, importers and OEM-owned sales companies. In addition to core enterprise resource planning (ERP) processes for human resources, finance and controlling, it offers specific functionality for new and used vehicle sales, vehicle service and service parts management.

"The deregulation of the automotive retail industry in Europe and continued consolidation of dealers in North America will result in increased competition, growing market complexity and economic uncertainty," said Thilo Koslowski, lead automotive analyst and vice president at Gartner. "Future success of automotive retailers will lay in their ability to create consistent consumer experiences throughout the pre-sale, sale and post-sale phases. A comprehensive dealer management system will be the foundation for creating consistent processes that will meet customers' needs and maximize dealer profits."

SAP Dealer Business Management will provide a single, unified platform with the comprehensive functionality, integration and scalability needed to support the requirements of vehicle dealers throughout the world. In addition, SAP customers will be able to leverage the company's open application and integration platform, SAP NetWeaver(TM) to rapidly and seamlessly integrate new as well as existing IT landscapes. SAP will use the new solution to address the entire dealer enterprise both for small dealerships as well as large dealership groups or OEM-driven subsidiaries. SAP will continue building its automotive partner network to help customers implement the solution and provide ongoing support. DCS Automotive has been awarded pan-European reseller status for the product and will remain an SAP channel partner. SAP Dealer Business Management will be available for first customers in the third quarter of 2005.

"We originally developed and launched DCS Quantum as a comprehensive dealer management system for the European marketplace," said Stephen Yapp, chief executive, DCS Group PLC. "However, the time has come for the next phase of its development and SAP has the necessary flexible infrastructure and resources to deliver the solution to a European as well as a worldwide market, leaving us free to focus on being a valued reseller and preferred partner for interface development and implementation."

"In the automotive industry, success depends on speed in a variety of business processes ranging from product development, through assembly and on to delivery and service to dealers and customers," said Claus Heinrich, member of the executive board, SAP AG. "SAP Dealer Business Management will help our customers integrate and scale their operations, as well as save time and money by improving business process flexibility and unifying their IT infrastructure."
