SSP Announces Additions to the 2005 Schedule
Contact: NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (January 21, 2005) – As the first race of the 2005 race season at the Susquehanna Speedway Park nears, a few more events have been added to the schedule. The biggest addition is the "King of the Posse Match Races" for the Sprint Cars that has been added to the Thursday, September 1 event. The 2-lap one-on-one match races will be used to set the starting spots for the first four rows of the 5th Annual York County Nationals. The top five in SSP track points entering the night will automatically be qualified for the Nationals and they will be seeded 1 through 5 for the match races. Seeds 6, 7 and 8 will be designated to the winners of the three heat races that night. The seeded drivers will be paired up for one-on-one match races in which the lower seed (8th being the lowest) will have the inside starting position for the 2-lap one-on-one competition. The winners of each match race will move on to challenge each other until only the “King of the Posse�?? remains. The "King of the Posse" will receive the pole position for the 32-lap York County Nationals and prize money to be announced in the future. Another exciting event added to the 2005 schedule is Twin 20’s for the Sprint Cars presented by SABKO Enterprises on Thursday, May 26. This will be a non-points event for the Sprint Cars. The first 20 lap feature will be for any driver who has not won a Sprint Car feature in the last 50 years at SSP. If more than 20 drivers are entered, qualifying events will determine the starters for the first Twin 20 feature race. Any driver that has won a Sprint Car feature at SSP in the last 50 years will automatically be qualified for the second Twin 20 feature race. The remaining spots for this feature will be made up from a to-be-determined number of drivers from the first Twin 20. Purses for the Twin 20’s will be released when they become available. Kid’s Big Wheel Racing has been added to the Thursday, June 9 event. There will be no time trials for the Big Wheels as the kid’s will compete in many fun-filled races for great prizes. York Country Racing Club nights have been scheduled for Thursday, June 2 and Sunday, July 24. The Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown (ARCH) will have its night on Thursday, July 21. There will also be a $1.00 general admission ticket discount for every 2005 SSP event for any member of the York County Racing Club, the Auto Racing Club of Hagerstown or the Checkered Flag Fan Club. To receive the discount, the membership card must be shown at the time of the ticket purchase. Gates will open for both the pit area and grandstand gates at 5:00 p.m. in 2005. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m. Race fans can continue to expect a fast paced 2 ½ hour program each and every night. Grandstand ticket prices remain the same as 2004 at Adults (18 & older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12) $4.00; and Children (5 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for all pit competitor license holders. Prices will be slightly higher for special events. SSP Pit Notes - Any driver with a pit competitor license will once again receive a complimentary pit pass for each event that they participate in at SSP. Licenses are $50.00 a year if received by SSP by February 15 and $75.00 if received postmarked after February 15. Last season, SSP gave out more than $33,000 in complimentary pit passes to drivers. SSP license applications are currently a vailable at _www.sspracing.net_ (http://www.sspracing.net/) or through a speedway mailing that will take place this month. - Mufflers have been mandated for the Sprint Cars in 2005 at SSP. The muffler that must be used is a Schoenfeld Part #112535 with no alterations permitted. The Schoenfeld mufflers are currently available at Miller Racing Products by calling (717) 761-7247.
