SAE Marks 100th Anniversary With Special Commemorative Events Throughout the Year

PITTSBURGH, January 19 -- January 20, 2005, marks the 100th anniversary of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). To commemorate its 100 years of continued service to the mobility community -- 1905 to 2005 -- SAE has planned special events at several of its conferences and expositions throughout the year. From several gala events to specially commissioned 100th anniversary artwork and an interactive, traveling exhibit, there will be ample opportunities to join SAE in toasting its first century.

"We've reached a milestone in our history as an organization," said Ray Morris, executive vice president/chief operating officer of SAE International. "With activities spanning all areas of the mobility industry -- automobiles, aerospace, commercial vehicle and motorsports -- our members now have access to a level of cutting-edge information unheard of a century ago." To reach its membership in diverse industries, special SAE 100th anniversary programs are being planned at the following events:

    
    - SAE 2005 World Congress -- April 11-15, Cobo Center, Detroit, MI. This
      event will feature a number of centennial-related highlights, including
      host company General Motors' unveiling of a unique SAE 100th
      anniversary technology integration vehicle; several networking events,
      including the SAE Centennial Partner Appreciation Ceremony on April 10,
      from 3:00-5:00 p.m. in the Marriott Renaissance Center; an interactive
      100th anniversary exhibit that incorporates a theater to present an
      exciting new video documenting the first 100 years of SAE; a beautiful,
      richly illustrated "coffee table book" entitled, The SAE Story: 100
      Years of Mobility, which will be available for purchase in the SAE
      Store on the exhibit floor; and the display of SAE's specially
      commissioned centennial artwork by accomplished artist John P. Glover.
      Several sessions and panels will also celebrate the 100th anniversary
      of SAE, including the April 12 "Significant Milestones in 100 Years of
      Mobility Engineering" daylong session in the Innovation Forum on the
      show floor.

    - 2005 SAE Foundation Banquet - May 24, GM Wintergarden, Detroit, MI.
      This event augments the festivities surrounding the centennial
      celebration of SAE. In addition to awarding its annual prestigious
      Manufacturing Leadership Award, the Foundation has designated 2005 the
      year of the OEM and will honor manufacturers for achievement across
      various categories.

    - 2005 Government & Industry Meeting - May 10, National Air & Space
      Museum, Washington, D.C.

    - 2005 Student Competition - 100-Mile Mini-Baja, June 1-4, southern
      Arizona, AZ. This year, SAE has transformed the Mini Baja West event
      into the SAE Mini Baja 100 to honor the Society's 100th Anniversary.
      Because Mini Baja is the longest running Collegiate Design Series
      event, SAE will be celebrating the event in true Baja style ... in the
      desert of Arizona. To run with the Anniversary theme, the competition's
      four-hour endurance event has been increased to a 100-mile race.

    - 2005 SAE AeroTech Congress and Exhibition - Oct. 3-7, Dallas/Ft. Worth,
      TX. A banquet and other events will spotlight the 100th Anniversary.
      New to the SAE lineup in 2005, this event will also feature numerous
      centennial-related highlights, including the interactive 100th
      Anniversary exhibit and video; The SAE Story: 100 Years of Mobility,
      which will be available for purchase in the SAE Store; and display of
      the specially commissioned centennial artwork by John P. Glover.

     - 2005 Commercial Vehicle Congress and Exhibition - Nov. 1-3, Chicago,
      IL. A banquet and other events will spotlight the 100th Anniversary.
      The 2004 Commercial Vehicle Congress was a tremendous success, and the
      centennial event is sure to be even more exciting, incorporating all of
      the features listed in the 2005 AeroTech Congress and Exhibition above.
