Consolidated Utility District to Use New GPS Vehicle Tracking System to Improve Fleet Operations

TORRANCE, Calif., Jan. 13, 2005 -- Radio Satellite Integrators, Inc. (RSI), a global provider of customized GPS-based vehicle tracking and mobile data systems, today announced that it has been contracted by the Consolidated Utility District of Rutherford County to supply a turn-key Automatic Vehicle Location system for their vehicle fleet.

Consolidated Utility District (CUD) is the largest rural water utility district in Tennessee and provides services to over 38,000 customers. With a fleet of over 60 vehicles to manage, CUD contracted Radio Satellite Integrators to design, manufacture, and implement a GPS-based Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system to help coordinate vehicle operations.

The RSI AVL system combines GPS, two-way radio, and ESRI ArcGIS mapping software to provide real-time vehicle fleet location data to CUD dispatchers and administrators. The systems send data wirelessly from the vehicles to a base station, providing valuable information such as location/address, speed, and time stopped. The systems can also be integrated to communicate with various devices on the vehicle such as laptop computers, ID readers, bar code readers, door and light sensors, engine health, etc. AVL technology is growing increasingly popular with both public and private service entities with vehicle fleets, such as fire departments, transit agencies, and utility truck fleets.

"In these uncertain times, water utilities and infrastructure are highly susceptible to various threats," said RSI President Jonathan Michels, "Our state-of-the-art technology will allow CUD to respond to calls and emergencies with real-time knowledge of their trucks' locations, providing increased safety and customer service."
