Hootie & the Blowfish to Play at Waltrip's OPERATION MARATHON
Celebration Concert
Sherrills Ford, NC (Jan. 11) - Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael
Waltrip and wife Buffy committed to raising $1 million for the operating
costs of the Victory Junction Gang Camp in a campaign called OPERATION
MARATHON. Knowing that it would take a "marathon of giving" to keep the
camp running, the Waltrip's created OPERATION MARATHON around a number
of fundraising events including running the 39th Annual Las Vegas
Marathon on January 30, 2005. To date, the couple has raised close to
$600,000 and will raise more money during the Las Vegas Marathon. The
Waltrip's will conclude their marathon weekend with a benefit concert
Sunday, January 30 at The Joint located at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
starring Hootie & the Blowfish.
A minimum donation of $25.00 at the door will get you a ticket into this
exclusive party. Along with Hootie and the Blowfish, expect to
celebrate with the Waltrip's and their friends and family. Donations
will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 7:00pm
local time at The Joint.
"The response to OPERATION MARATHON has been overwhelming," Buffy
Waltrip explained. "Fans all over the country have opened their hearts
to the Petty family by contributing to the Victory Junction Gang Camp.
Michael and I are especially grateful to Harry Morton who has made this
celebration possible by embracing the cause and opening the doors of The
Joint to welcome friends and fans to rejoice in our efforts. It should
be no surprise to the sporting world that Darius Rucker (lead singer of
Hootie & the Blowfish) wanted to support his NASCAR buddies and perform
at this event. It means a lot to Michael that the band is taking time
out of their busy schedule to be with us that evening."
This concert is a commemoration of the many hours of hard work that
Michael and the NASCAR family have dedicated to helping the children of
the Victory Junction Gang Camp. If you plan to attend, please respect
this time of celebration and refrain from asking for autographs and
pictures.
