Krohn Racing/TRG - Daytona test Sunday

fast wrap

Krohn Racing/TRG wrapped a successful test for the 2005 Rolex 24 At Daytona
with the second-fastest Daytona Prototype time of the three-day test. Max
Papis, DP co-champion in last year's Rolex Sports Car Series, recorded the
team's fastest lap of the week – one minute 47.182 seconds on the 3.56-mile
Daytona International Speedway infield road course. His co-drivers Jörg
Bergmeister and Oliver Gavin also took turns topping the team times in the
new No. 66 Krohn Racing/TRG Pontiac-powered Riley Mk XI.

"It was a very productive weekend," Papis said. "We've been running in the
top three or five, which is a little bit more than we expected – we
exceeded our expectation. We ran flawless for three days and that's a great
starting point. We'll regroup and understand exactly what we need to go to
the next level, but I'm really pleased with what we've done."

two quick

The No. 67 Krohn/TRG Riley was fast in the hands of Tracy Krohn, Nic
Jönsson, Buddy Rice and Boris Said. They ran in the top-five for most of the
eight Daytona test sessions, with Jönsson, an accomplished test driver,
taking honors for the car's fastest lap (1:48.562).

"I'm very delighted and very surprised how good the cars were right out of
the box. We just got them last Monday [Jan. 3] and haven't really done any
development yet," he noted. "Mechanically, they ran completely flawless.
It's incredible how well the cars are built and the guys on the team have
done a great job to get the cars together in such a short time."

passed to passing

Jörg Bergmeister has already won the Rolex 24 At Daytona twice – in the GT
class in 2002 and overall (and GT) in 2003. He was delighted to move up to
the prototype class this year, where he'll be passing the GT cars, rather
than being passed.

"The car is not too different, it's actually pretty easy to drive. The
handling is balanced and there's nothing you're not expecting from the car,"
he said. "It's really nice [to be passing]. I think it helps if you've
driven a GT car before, to judge the situation a little better. I know how
it feels to be passed all the time!"

The Rolex 24 At Daytona is set for Feb. 5 and 6 in Daytona Beach, Fla.
