SSP Increases 2005 Sprint Car Purse

Susquehanna Speedway Park Increases the 2005 Sprint Car Purse
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (January 7, 2004) – As the beginning of the 2005 racing
season of the Susquehanna Speedway Park approaches, SSP management announces
that the regular sprint car purse has been increased. The starting field for a
regular point event has also been reduced from twenty four starters to twenty
starters. The purse increase of positions four through twenty makes it the
highest average purse of any Central Pennsylvania speedway at $620.00 per
position. The final starting position of $325.00, up from $200.00 in 2004 is
also the highest for any Central PA speedway as well. “We have developed a
great core group of weekly Sprint Car teams and we want to make these changes to
benefit them,?? said Todd Fisher, SSP co-owner. The sprint car purse for
2005 is as follows: 1) $2500.00, 2) $1500.00, 3) $1000.00, 4) $900.00, 5)
$800.00, 6) $650.00, 7) $525.00, 8) $450.00, 9) $425.00, 10) $400.00, 11 through
20) $325.00. Special events such as the Cindy Rowe Auto Glass PA Speedweeks
and the 5th Annual York County Nationals will remain at twenty four starting
spots with higher purses than the weekly purse as well. The championship
points racing season will begin on Thursday night, April 14 with the 410 Sprint
Cars, Xtreme Stock Cars and the Central PA Legends Cars Series. The season
will begin on Saturday, March 12 with the Susquehanna 200 featuring a 200 lap
Xtreme Stock Car Enduro and School Bus Racing beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Any driver with a pit competitor license will once again receive a
complimentary pit pass for each event that they participate in at SSP. Licenses are
$50.00 a year if received by SSP by February 15 and $75.00 if receoved on or
after February 16. Last season, SSP gave out more than $33,000 in
complimentary pit passes to drivers. SSP license applications are currently available
at _www.sspracing.net_ (http://www.sspracing.net/) or through a speedway
mailing that will take place this month.
Mufflers will also be mandated for the Sprint Cars in 2005 at SSP. The
muffler that must be used is a Schoenfeld Part #112535 with no alterations
permitted. The Schoenfeld mufflers are currently available at Miller Racing
Products by calling (717) 761-7247. The cost of the muffler is less than $30.00.
The change is being made to accommodate many of the race fans that have
returned to the weekly program of Sprint Cars in 2004. “The overall sound will
not be affected that much, but the loud sounds that cause people to cringe
when heard will be eliminated and make the events more enjoyable to watch,?? said
Fisher.
Gates will open for both the pit area and grandstand gates at 5:00 p.m. in
2005. Warmups begin at 6:30 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Race fans can continue to expect a fast paced 2 ½ hour program each and every
night. Grandstand ticket prices remain the same as 2004 at Adults (18 &
older) $12.00; Teens (13-17) $8.00; Children (6-12) $4.00; and Children (5 &
under) are free. Pit pass prices are $20.00 with a reduced price of $18.00 for
all pit competitor license holders. Prices will be slightly higher for
special events.
