Tripath Introduces World's First Digital Amplifier Processor for Automotive Head Units

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Jan. 5, 2005--

The New TCD6001 Class-T(R) Digital Amplifier Processor Provides Digital Input Solution for High Power Automotive Applications

Tripath introduces the TCD6001 Class-T(R) digital amplifier processor. The TCD6001 accepts 6 channels of input and provides 4 complementary single-bit data streams suitable for driving Tripath power output stages such as the TDA4100. The remaining output stages are converted to analog and can be used to drive line level outputs or headphones. When combined with output stages like the TPS4100 or TPS4070 the TCD6001 provides a complete Class-T solution for automotive head units.

The TCD6001 offers a digital solution for customers who want to implement Class-T amplifiers in automotive applications. Tripath's highly efficient solutions enable the current generation of high-power head-units, more then doubling the output power of models previously available. When used with the TPS4100 the TCD6001 can provide 100 watts into 4 channels (saturated square wave) or 65 watts (CEA2006).

The TCD6001 eliminates the need for discrete digital-to-analog converters in the system. It is compatible with Tripath's low EMI "AM" mode enabling interference-free radio reception. It is available with a fully tested reference design making design a snap.

The TCD6001 provides audiophile performance with 99dB SNR and less then 0.03% THD+N. It accepts inputs in I2S and other PCM formats with up to 24 bit resolution and 192 kHz sampling rate. To help simplify system design it offers integrated de-emphasis filters and an integrated digital volume control with 128dB range and zero cross detection for click free transitions. The TCD6001 also offers DC offset cancellation to minimize turn-on pops. It packs all this functionality into a 100 pin TQFP package allowing a compact implementation.

Tripath will be demonstrating the new TCD6001 along with other new digital amplifier products at the 2005 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, January 6th through the 9th. Tripath's display will be at booth #21839 in LVCC South Hall.
