ChevronTexaco First Again as it Earns ``TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline'' Specifications in Canada
SAN RAMON, Calif.--Dec. 17, 2004--Four Major Automakers Qualify Chevron Fuels First for Meeting New Performance Standards |
ChevronTexaco Products Company today announced that Chevron Canada Limited is the first gasoline marketer in Canada to have its gasolines approved as meeting new performance criteria set by BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota for "TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline." Fuels from ChevronTexaco Products Company, the U.S. counterpart to Chevron Canada, were the first recognized in the U.S. as TOP TIER in May 20, 200504, shortly after the automobile manufacturers announced the program.
The voluntary TOP TIER program establishes criteria for detergency levels in gasoline higher than those currently set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Gasolines meeting these criteria will keep engine parts cleaner by reducing fuel-related deposits, resulting in better performance.
"Not only was ChevronTexaco the first marketer in the U.S. qualified to meet the 'TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline' performance criteria, but our quality fuels are also the first to lead the way in Canada," said Shariq Yosufzai, president, ChevronTexaco Global Marketing. "We are extremely proud to be the first marketer qualified to meet these strict guidelines in both countries, and doing so without having to change any of the formulations of our gasoline."
All grades of Chevron gasoline everywhere meet the new "TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline" criteria.
"For nearly 50 years, ChevronTexaco has focused on providing fuels that minimize deposits on vital engine parts," said Danny Roden, ChevronTexaco vice president for North America marketing. "While Chevron with Techron helps keep critical engine parts clean, it even helps clean-up deposits left by gasolines with lower-quality additive packages."
Some fuels with lower-quality additive packages can build up deposits on fuel injectors and on intake valves. Others can build up deposits in combustion chambers and may lead to intake valve sticking. These problems can have negative impacts on engine performance and vehicle responsiveness.
The Big Three U.S. automakers prefer to use high-performing gasolines in their test vehicles. For example, these automakers have been using Chevron gasolines to help them demonstrate compliance with the U.S. EPA's stringent 50,000-mile, and now 100,000-mile, emissions system durability requirements for the past 30 years.
