LaserCraft Begins Installation of Red Light Monitoring Systems in the City of Duluth
NORCROSS, Ga., Dec. 17, 2004 -- LaserCraft Inc., a Norcross, GA provider of automated traffic enforcement systems, will break ground this week for the installation of red light monitoring systems in the City of Duluth, GA. The contract was awarded to LaserCraft following an extensive review process that began in March 2003 leading to final approval by Gwinnett County on December 8, 2004. LaserCraft will install their Laser Red Light Monitoring Systems (Laser RMS) at the intersection of Peachtree Industrial Blvd. and Pleasant Hill Road. This installation represents the first system of its kind to issue citations in Gwinnett County, GA.
Red light camera systems are designed to decrease the number and severity of accidents while also increasing pedestrian safety. When a driver violates the red traffic signal, digital images are captured that show the violation. The driver will then receive a ticket in the mail within 10 days. This program represents the ninth jurisdiction in Georgia that has selected LaserCraft over major competitors in the industry. Red light cameras currently operate in five Georgia municipalities, including Decatur and Marietta.
Installation of the red light camera systems comes on the heels of a fatality accident on Nov. 28 in the City of Duluth where one driver was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device. According to Lieutenant Bill Stevens, Community Policing Division Commander and Project Director for Operation Drive Smart, "A survey by the Atlanta Journal Constitution states that the number one crime related concern in Gwinnett County is speeding and traffic violations. This finding is backed up by statistics concerning the number of traffic related deaths, of which Gwinnett County leads the state. The City of Duluth Police Department is committed to protecting citizens by all means; the red light camera system is just one additional tool that is being employed to reduce the numbers of traffic related injuries and deaths."
Debbie Trainor, Program Manager for LaserCraft, Inc. states, "As a local Company, LaserCraft is thrilled that the City of Duluth is making all efforts to improve the safety of its roadways through automated enforcement. If the weather cooperates, the systems should be issuing warnings by February 1, 2005."
LaserCraft Inc. is a privately held Norcross, GA company and a leading provider of automated traffic enforcement systems, currently with contract awards in eight municipalities in Georgia for red light enforcement technology. The Company's Laser Red Light Monitoring Systems and Digital Traffic Monitoring Systems are fully automated and utilize proprietary technology to capture and record red light and speed violators. LaserCraft also designs and manufactures advanced electro-optical sensing systems for law enforcement, including the ProLaser series of police LIDAR speed systems, distributed exclusively by Kustom Signals, Inc. LaserCraft also produces a full line of surveying products under the Contour brand name.
