Tallahassee Residents Recognized for Acts of Kindness in Community's Time of Need
Residents Awarded Year's Worth of Shell Gasoline to Keep Florida Moving
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Dec. 17 -- This week Shell awarded one year's worth of free gasoline to 20 Tallahassee residents who demonstrated their exceptional caring through acts of kindness and generosity to other community members in a time of need. These awards are part of Shell's Keep Florida Moving, a program designed to help Florida residents recover from the devastation of the hurricanes by providing assistance and essential supplies such as gasoline and food.
"Shell realizes that the storms have affected everyone throughout the state of Florida, even in areas that weren't directly hit. We also realize that many Floridians have gone above and beyond to help their friends and neighbors recover and rebuild, and wanted to recognize these people for their compassionate acts," said David Moss, Shell's General Manager of the South Region. "By encouraging friends, neighbors and family members to share their stories of goodwill, we want to lighten the load for Florida residents and inspire a little hope in overwhelmed areas."
The Keep Florida Moving program will award nearly $650,000 in free Shell gasoline and gift cards to Florida residents. Those who won a year's worth of Shell gasoline, which is valued at $1,000 and will be awarded in $100 Shell Gift Cards, were announced this week on WHBX-FM, WBZE-FM, WWLD-FM and WGLF-FM in Tallahassee. Their helpful service to others was shared with the community in order to inspire others and bring a smile to the faces of local residents that have experienced so much adversity.
Radio station partners in Tallahassee received many testimonials from people who have made a difference by rebuilding the community and alleviating the suffering of their fellow residents. Some of the local heroes selected as winners include Gene Floyd, whose family volunteered to deliver relief supplies and assess damage for the Red Cross during the storms and Linda Long, who worked with the State Emergency Operations Center, alongside many other volunteers, providing aide to shelters and community members during the storms. April Card, Pam Hart, Stacey Steger, Christine Councilman, Eric Mitchell and Jason Mercer were also selected as winners for their selfless acts.
In addition to recognizing the caring deeds of local residents in Tallahassee, Team Florida, a group representing Shell, will be traveling to nine other Florida markets to assist local residents in getting back on their feet and to carry out random acts of kindness throughout those cities. From simple gestures like pumping gasoline at Shell stations and giving away Shell gift cards that can be used for gasoline and convenience store items to recognizing the hard work that has been done to rebuild Florida neighborhoods, Team Florida will be on the ground to support Florida residents.
Other areas that Team Florida will be visiting include Panama City, Pensacola and Destin. Shell's Team Florida has already visited Miami, West Palm Beach, Daytona, Fort Meyers, Tampa and Orlando and once the Florida tour has ended they will move to Mobile, Ala.
Since the first destructive storm hit Florida, Shell has worked hard to get all of its stations back up and running as quickly as possible. In its efforts to help Keep Florida Moving, Shell has supported the Volunteer Florida Foundation, the American Red Cross and residents right here in Daytona.
