ChevronTexaco Sponsors Georgia High School Association Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Program

SAN RAMON, Calif.--Dec. 1, 20045, 2004--

Program Recognizes Students Who Excel on Field, in Classroom and in Their Communities

ChevronTexaco Products Company (CTPC), a division of Chevron U.S.A. Inc., today announced that it is again sponsoring the Georgia High School Association's Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Program. ChevronTexaco's Havoline brand has sponsored each year of the 11-year-old program, which recognizes 40 of the top scholar-athletes in the state of Georgia, one from each region of the state.

In awarding the scholarships, judges take into account the student's performance on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. Each of the 40 winners will receive a college scholarship in the amount of $1,000, courtesy of Havoline. In addition, the judges will select one athlete with the highest achievement to receive a $2,000 scholarship.

"ChevronTexaco has a longstanding tradition of promoting education as a vital component of personal and professional growth," said Craig Duncan, vice president, ChevronTexaco Products Company, North America. "We are proud to be able to recognize the tremendous and well-rounded efforts of these student-athletes, and we commend them for recognizing the importance of education in reaching their goals."

The Havoline scholarships will be presented at the annual ChevronTexaco Scholarship Luncheon, to be held on December 30th, 2004 at the Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta. In addition to the scholarship winners and their families, the luncheon will be attended by both participating teams from the 2004 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, which will take place at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on December 31st. The head coach of each of the competing teams will give a "chalk talk" and retrospective of his team's season. The event is open to the public, with tickets available for purchase at the door or by calling 404-586-8500.

"It's not easy at any level to balance athletics and academics," said Jon Stinchcomb, winner of the 1996-97 Havoline Scholar-Athlete Award and a current member of the National Football League's New Orleans Saints. "The award is a great way to recognize those who understand that a student-athlete needs to focus on more than just what happens on the field."
