ARCA RE/MAX Series Partners With Mallory Ignition
INDIANAPOLIS IN (12-9-04) ARCA RE/MAX Series officials announced today a new partnership with Mallory Ignition for the 2005 season specifically designed to address the cost-containment issue of limiting engine RPMs.
The groundbreaking partnership will mandate that all RE/MAX Series teams utilize purpose-built, ARCA-issued Mallory Ignition systems designed to limit engine revs to 8800 RPMs.
"One of our day-to-day challenges as a sanctioning body is to institute rules and procedures to contain cost," said ARCA President Ron Drager. "The innovative engine builders in our sport continue to grow the RPMs at which an engine can perform, producing a great deal of power, but for shorter runs. Unfortunately, as these engines perform at higher RPMs, internal engine component durability and reliability is sacrificed. That makes it a cost issue, and although it's new to us, it's been an issue in drag racing, road course racing and other forms of motorsports for some time. In researching methods to effectively limit engine RPMs, the most logical choice for the ARCA RE/MAX Series is to accomplish it through the ignition box. We were fortunate to partner with the respected Mr. Gasket Company and their Mallory Ignition brand, who bring 80-plus years of reliability and experience manufacturing ignition systems and related products and a winning track record in NHRA and IHRA drag racing as well as in open wheel racing in USAC, World of Outlaws and many other forms of racing."
Mallory Ignition technicians have researched, developed and produced/manufactured the systems totally in-house.
"We are honored and excited to be a part of this important rule change with the ARCA RE/MAX Series," said Mike Golding, Product Manager for Mallory Ignition, "and look forward to what we hope is a long-standing partnership. With over 80 years of race-winning history built into each of our Mallory products, we are confident we will provide the kind of quality and consistency that the ARCA RE/MAX Series is looking for with this new regulated ignition system."
Dubbed the Mallory CT-PRO Endurance Racing Module, these systems, ready to run, will bolt right onto the dashboard for easy plug-in access. They will be numbered and tested pre-race to ensure optimum performance and reliability. ARCA officials will issue the systems to teams at initial inspection, seal their connections and retrieve the systems after the event.
The CT-PRO features a pre-set 8800 RPM Rev Limiter with +/- 10 RPM, the latest microprocessor-controlled circuitry, and a lightweight aluminum housing, which allows maximum heat transfer. The CT-PRO delivers maximum performance with a lower current draw, as well as quicker acceleration and improved throttle response.
The Mallory Ignition system will be utilized at all tracks on the 2005 ARCA RE/MAX Series schedule with the exception of the two restrictor plate races at Daytona Int'l Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. The first event that will utilize the Mallory Ignition system will be the PFG Lester 150 at Nashville Superspeedway on March 26th.
