Daytona Residents Recognized for Acts of Kindness in Community's Time of Need; Residents Awarded Year's Worth of Shell Gasoline to Keep Florida Moving

HOUSTON, Dec. 9, 2004 -- This week Shell Oil Products US and Motiva Enterprises LLC, the companies that market the Shell brand in the United States, awarded each of 10 Daytona residents with a one-year supply of Shell gasoline. The residents were recognized for demonstrating exceptional acts of kindness and generosity to fellow community members as part of Keep Florida Moving, a program Shell designed to help Florida residents recover from the devastation of the hurricanes by providing assistance and essential supplies such as gasoline and food.

"Shell realizes that the storms have affected everyone throughout the state of Florida, even in areas that weren't directly hit by hurricanes. We also realize that many Floridians have gone above and beyond to help friends and neighbors recover and rebuild, and want to recognize these people for their compassionate acts," said David Moss, Shell's General Manager of the South Region. "By sharing stories of Florida's Good Samaritans, we hope to recognize those who have lightened the load for others and inspire those who are overwhelmed."

The Keep Florida Moving program will award nearly $650,000 in free Shell gasoline and gift cards to Florida residents. Those who won a year's worth of Shell gasoline, which is valued at $1,000 and will be awarded in 10 $100 Shell Gift Cards, were announced this week on WHOG-FM and WGNE-FM in Daytona. Their helpful service to others was shared with the community in order to inspire others and bring a smile to the faces of local residents that have experienced so much hardship.

Radio station partners in Daytona received many testimonials from people who have made a difference by rebuilding the community and alleviating the suffering of fellow residents. Some of the local heroes selected as winners included Matthew Olsen, who helped secure neighborhood homes and assisted his family and friends in cleaning up debris after the storms and Tim McCullough, who helped others in his community by cutting down trees, giving water and lending a helping hand anywhere he could.

In addition to recognizing the caring deeds of local residents in Daytona, Team Florida, a group representing Shell, will be traveling to nine other Florida markets to assist local residents in getting back on their feet and to carry out random acts of kindness throughout those cities. From simple gestures like pumping gasoline at Shell stations and giving away Shell gift cards that can be used for gasoline and convenience store items to recognizing the hard work that has been done to rebuild Florida neighborhoods, Team Florida will be on the ground to support Florida residents.

Other areas that Team Florida will be visiting include Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Panama City and Pensacola. Shell's Team Florida has already visited Miami, West Palm Beach, Fort Meyers/Naples, Tampa and Orlando and once the Florida tour has ended they will move to Mobile, Ala.

Since the first destructive storm hit Florida, Shell has worked hard to get all of its stations back up and running as quickly as possible. In its efforts to help Keep Florida Moving, Shell has supported the Volunteer Florida Foundation, the American Red Cross and residents right here in Daytona.
