Flexpoint Announced European Union Safety Directive Increases Demand for Bend Sensor Technology

DRAPER, Utah--Dec. 8, 2004--Flexpoint Sensor Systems, Inc. (OTCBB:FLXT) today discussed the strong demand for the Bend Sensor(R) Pedestrian Impact Detection System fueled by new European automotive safety directives.

It is estimated that throughout the European Union Countries more than 6,000 accidental deaths and 155,151 injuries occur annually. To reduce the 16 average deaths per day, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union took decisive action in 2003, publishing a Directive on pedestrian protection. All new 2005 vehicles must comply with special tests demonstrating they meet standards protecting pedestrians against head and leg injuries in accidents. In 2010, two additional stringent tests will be imposed.

In 2002, a major automotive supplier began testing the Bend Sensor(R) Pedestrian Impact Detection System which measures impact on the vehicle's front bumper. The testing concluded the Bend Sensor(R) was able to detect impact with a human leg and in the event of an accident, trigger a safety response, which could include rising the hood or deploying an external airbag. Currently, Flexpoint is conducting research and development for four separate corporations which include both suppliers and auto manufacturers.

"Our technology applicable to the automotive industry is focused on safety which is driven by regulators' mandates and standards," stated Flexpoint's CEO John Sindt. "The Pedestrian application has already undergone extensive research and testing, greatly reducing the time and resources necessary to enter the market. The Bend Sensor's(R) advantages over the competition include reliability, accuracy, and lower costs. For these reasons, and the sheer number of companies we are conducting R&D for, combined with the sense of urgency, we are ideally positioned to secure a contract."

Flexpoint Sensor Systems, Inc. has developed and patented the Bend Sensor(R) technology. The Bend Sensor is a technological breakthrough that offers a superior solution for applications that require accurate measurement and sensing of deflection, acceleration and range of motion. Global market opportunities include automotive, medical, industrial controls, government, health and fitness, security, computer, aerospace, transportation and consumer products.
