Quantum Awarded Emissions Compliance Testing Contract From General Motors

IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 6, 2004 -- Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a contract to provide emissions compliance testing on General Motors Corporation's 2000 model year regular production passenger cars and trucks. This work was previously performed in California at GM's Los Angeles Emission Lab.

Utilizing its state-of-the-art emissions laboratory located in Lake Forest, California, Quantum will conduct emissions testing on GM's 22 certification test groups currently in service. Automakers are required by the emissions regulatory agencies such as the California Air Resources Board and Federal Environmental Protection Agency, to conduct emissions testing on vehicles that have been in customer use for several years in order to demonstrate compliance with State and Federal emission standards.

Quantum installed its state-of-the-art emissions lab in 2001 to test Quantum's alternative fuel systems that were developed for its OEM customers. In 2002, Quantum opened the doors of its lab to provide contract services in the form of engineering, component, audit and aftermarket parts testing.

This lab is the West Coast's first emission testing facility to utilize AVL's bag mini-diluter technology that was recently approved by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and is the preferred method for testing Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (SULEV). Quantum is also one of only a few select West Coast emissions facilities capable of testing vehicles fueled with hydrogen. In addition to in-use vehicle testing, Quantum is capable of EPA/CARB certification testing including SULEV, development testing including catalyst efficiency, OBD II calibration, alternative fuels development including hydrogen, engine durability testing, and engine mapping.

"This contract further expands the customer base for Quantum's emissions lab," said Alan P. Niedzwiecki, President and CEO. "We were chosen by GM because of our proven track record of providing accurate emissions data in a timely manner. We developed this capability by conducting these complex tests for our own fuel system development programs and have provided this high level of service for almost 50 customers."
