"UK Road Hauliers Get a Reprieve", Says Road Haulage Association

WEYBRIDGE, England, December 2 -- The Road Haulage Association is delighted that the Chancellor has finally heeded the advice he has been given on the danger of increasing fuel duty by 1.92 pence per litre.

RHA Chief Executive Roger King said: "Finally, the crushing sword of Damocles been lifted from over the heads of UK road hauliers. But the story doesn't end here. It is now more essential than ever that road freight transport sees no further increases between now and the introduction of the lorry road user charge in 2008. This would represent a tremendous act of good faith by Government in confirming its declared intention to deliver both a fairer and more equitable tax system for UK transport operators."
