Guru Nanak Auto Enterprises Chooses to Streamline Its Business Processes With IFS Applications(TM)

LINKOPING, Sweden, Dec. 2, 2004 -- One of India's leading automotive companies, Guru Nanak Auto Enterprises Ltd. (GNAE), recently entered into a contract to deploy IFS Applications. The software will enable GNAE to adopt best business practices relevant to the automotive industry. IFS Applications will be used to support its business processes with an integrated, flexible system, allowing the company to decrease costs and improve its ability to respond to changing market demands. GNAE is the largest integrated manufacturer of rear axle shafts in the Indian subcontinent.

GNAE's main criteria for selecting an ERP system were the availability of functionality specific to the automotive industry, technology and openness of the architecture, and ease of use of the business applications. The proposed IFS Applications solution will enable GNAE to have an integrated system bundled with best business practices similar to features found in Six Sigma, Kaizen costing, TPM, etc. The new solution will replace a legacy ERP system consisting of a number of homegrown applications at GNAE.

"GNAE is looking at the implementation of IFS' Automotive solution as an opportunity to adopt best business practices to enhance productivity," said Jagdish Singh, managing director of GNAE. "IFS will enable us to use IT as an enabling technology to remain ahead of competition and provide the best value for the money to our customers in India and worldwide."

Implementation of this project has started. GNAE will deploy several components, covering engineering, manufacturing, finance, distribution, quality management, document management, plant maintenance, and human resources.

"By implementing IFS Applications at GNAE, IFS India can demonstrate to other automotive component manufacturers that a vertical solution, specially designed to meet the challenges of the automotive industry, is different from a generic ERP solution," said Dr. Chandan Chowdhury, CEO of IFS India. "It enables an automotive company to gain access to real-time information with respect to the planning process and facilitates proactive decision-making. This allows the organization to focus on quality improvement initiatives, adherence to delivery schedules, and identification of ongoing cost reduction opportunities."

The automotive industry is one of IFS' targeted market segments. IFS' Automotive solution provides the right tools for managing the interaction between automotive OEMs, automotive suppliers, and subcontractors in networks of varying complexity. IFS Applications -- with its unique flexibility, scalability, and openness -- offers unprecedented breadth and depth of functionality for all business-critical processes in the automotive sector.

Many leading automotive companies are using IFS' Automotive solution, including Volvo, BMW, London Taxis, Scania, Avestor, Sanden Corporation, Borgstena, Nolato Group, Toyota, MG Rover and Finnveden Group.
