Ward's Reports Estimated North American Vehicle Production November 24, 2004

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 24, 2004 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 245,917 units, down 24.7 percent from the 326,489 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 14,902,192 vehicles, down 1.4 percent from like-2003's pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 161,987 vehicles this week, down 33.0 percent from the 241,715 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2004 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 11,002,292 units, down 1.8 percent compared to the 11,199,213 vehicles built in like-2003.

This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 53,470, a decrease of 1.3 percent from the 54,155 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar- 2004 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,484,667 units, up 4.9 percent compared to the 2,367,675 vehicles produced in like-2003.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 25.6 percent; Ford Motor Co., 25.0 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 12.6 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.2 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 10.9 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 6.6 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.8 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.7 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.6 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.9 percent; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 1.1 percent; and other manufacturers, 4.0 percent.
