SSP Turkey 200 Postponed Until Sunday Afternoon

The Turkey 200 Scheduled for Saturday Postponed Until Sunday, November 21
at SSP
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (November 20, 2004) – With heavy rains on Friday night,
Susquehanna Speedway Park officials were forced to postpone the Turkey 200
scheduled for Saturday afternoon, November 20, to Sunday afternoon, November 21.
Heavily saturated grounds and the high humidity has hampered the efforts of
the track crew to properly prepare the track in time for the 1:00 p.m. start.
The Great American School Buses will take to the track before the 200 lap
Enduro event for the first ever “day time school bus race at SSP.” Fans will
also be given complimentary school bus rides around the track at 12:30 p.m.
The Enduro event will follow the specifications for the Xtreme Enduro Stock
Car division that ran weekly at SSP during the 2004 season. The rules are
basically the specifications that have governed Enduro style racing in Central
Pennsylvania over the past few seasons. The Turkey 200 event will be 200
laps regardless of the number of entries. The purse payout will be based on
entry numbers and a payout can be found at the end of this release.
Pre-entry for the event is encouraged but not mandatory. A Pre-entry fee is
$50.00 and must be postmarked by Tuesday, November 16, 2004. All entries
postmarked on or after November 17, 2004 will be $75.00. Entries will be taken
on the day of the event. The starting positions for the Turkey 200 will be
aligned through a blind draw at the pit gate on the day of the event. As a
special bonus, all pre-entrants will be able to draw a second time for a
starting position if he or she does not like their first draw for position.
However, the entrant must take the second drawn spot regardless of whether or not
it is a better starting position. Entry forms may be found at
_www.sspracing.net_ (http://www.sspracing.net/) or contact (717) 292-1696 and leave an
address or fax number for an entry.
Race procedures will be described at the mandatory driver’s meeting at 12:00
p.m. In keeping with “traditional” Enduro racing, the red and yellow
flags will be used sparingly at the official’s discretion if the track becomes
blocked or a driver is in a precarious position. As with the weekly racing,
intentional rough driving and destroying of racecars will not be tolerated.
Each team must provide its own scorer for the event.
The “hot pits” for the event will be located in the infield of the
speedway. Due to restricted space in the “hot pit area, all teams must unload their
racecars and park their trailers outside of the track. If desired, teams
will be permitted a pickup truck in the infield for their extra parts and tools,
however, no trailers will be permitted in the infield during the race.
Teams choosing not to unhook from their trailers may pit in the pit area outside
turn one or two, but this is a longer route back to the track if a pitstop is
necessary.
Gates open in the pit area and grandstands open at 10:00 a.m. with racing
beginning promptly at 1:00 p.m. Grandstand ticket prices are Adults (18 &
older) $10.00; Teens (13-17) $6.00; Children (6-12) $2.00; and Children (5 &
under) are free. Pit passes for all drivers and crew members are $18.00.
Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York
Road, then 1.3 miles south. For more information, contact the speedway
offices at (717) 292-1696 or visit online at ww.sspracing.net. On raceday, fans
are encouraged to call (717) 938-9170 for current weather conditions.
