Johnson Controls Announces Corporate Officer and Board of Directors Changes
MILWAUKEE, Nov. 17, 2004 -- Directors of Johnson Controls announced the election of Stephen A. Roell to the company's Board of Directors effective today.

Mr. Roell, 55, has served as executive vice president since September 2004 and Chief Financial Officer since 1991. He joined the company in 1982.
Mr. Roell succeeds James H. Keyes who has retired from the Board of Directors effective November 17. Mr. Keyes served as Johnson Controls Chairman between 1993 and 2002, and as its Chief Executive Officer from 1988 to 2002.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John M. Barth also announced new executive appointments, effective immediately.
John P. Kennedy, 61, has been named President of the company's Controls Group. He formerly served as Senior Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel. Mr. Kennedy joined the company in 1984 as General Counsel. He was elected Secretary in 1987 and named a Senior Vice President in 2002.
Mr. Kennedy succeeds Brian J. Stark who served as Controls Group President since 1998. Mr. Stark, who joined the company in 1971, will retire December 31, 2004.
The company also announced that Jerome Okarma, 52, has been named Vice President, Secretary and General Counsel. Mr. Okarma formerly served as Vice President, Assistant Secretary and Deputy General Counsel. He joined the company in 1989.
Sean Major, 40, has been named Assistant Secretary and Assistant General Counsel and was elected a corporate officer. He formerly served as group Vice President and General Counsel International. Mr. Major joined the company in 1998.
