South Florida International Auto Show Ends 10-Day Exhibit

Attendance Largest in Show's History

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Nov. 17 -- The South Florida International Auto Show ended its annual 10-day run Sunday with an estimated attendance of more than 673,000. That is the largest attendance in the show's 34-year history and surpasses the previous high set last year at 664,000.

Visitors to the Miami Beach Convention Center expressed strong interest in new technology, in variations on the SUV and in the industry's newest models. The show had something for everyone, according to show chairman Loren Sheffer.

"People were curious about hybrid technology, and we had six different models on display," said Sheffer. "We also had nine concept cars or prototypes, which people always enjoy." Opening day started with press events by Pontiac, Ford, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Hummer, Subaru, Jeep, Ferrari Maserati and Nissan. The South Florida exhibit was the first U.S. show to unveil the new Lincoln Mark LT pickup and the Mercedes 2005 SLK roadster.

Dealer and manufacturer representatives working the show reported continued interest in trucks, in sporty models and convertibles ideal for Florida, and in entry-level vehicles that emphasize good mileage. Motorcycles, which get their own room at this annual exhibit, also drew large crowds.

"We're able to gather 1,000 models under one roof," added Sheffer. "And that's a real advantage for consumers, whether they're in the market or just looking at what's new."

The South Florida International Auto Show is produced by the South Florida Auto-Truck Dealers Association, which comprises 220 dealerships in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Monroe counties.

The 35th annual South Florida International Auto Show is scheduled for November 4-13, 2005 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. For more information, contact Show Coordinator Cliff Ray at 305-947-5950.
