AAA Texas Survey Shows National Gas Price Drops Below $2 Per Gallon; AAA Texas Monthly Fuel Gauge Report
IRVING, Texas--Nov. 16, 2004--The nationwide average price for self-serve regular gasoline is continuing to drop after nearing record highs, says AAA.The nationwide gas price reached $2.033 a gallon on Oct. 29th - short of the all-time record high price of $2.054 a gallon set last May 26th - before starting a gradual decline to its current $1.958. The current average is 45.8 cents higher than last year's average of $1.500.
The statewide average for self-serve, regular gasoline in Texas is $1.837, which is about 5.1 cents less than last month's average of $1.888 and 47.3 cents more than last year's average of $1.364, according to AAA Texas.
"Motorists are starting to see a gradual decline at the pumps due to the lowering of the price of crude oil in the last two weeks," said Rose Rougeau, spokesperson for AAA Texas. "Crude reached $55 a barrel before the Nov. 2, 2004nd election and has recently fallen below $47 a barrel. These lower oil prices have occurred as the U.S. oil industry has been able to restore capacity and reserves lost when Hurricane Ivan struck the Gulf of Mexico back in September."
AAA's Fuel Gauge Report is based on data from the Oil Price Information Service, the nation's most comprehensive source of petroleum pricing information.
