Ringers Gloves Weekend Wrap-Up

Indianapolis – (November 15, 2004) The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA)
closed out its 2004 POWERade Championship Drag Racing season on Sunday at
Pomona Raceway in Pomona, Calif. While three of the four professional
categories determined champions a few races earlier, the Pro Stock Bike category
crowned a champion…the youngest ever in NHRA history for that matter.
On Saturday following his second qualifying pass of the day, Andrew Hines
became the youngest NHRA POWERade National Champion in the series’ history.
Hines, 21, took his Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson to three
national Pro Stock Bike wins and set eight No. 1 low qualifying times in 2004
on his way to his first national championship.
While Hines didn’t end up in the final round eliminations, the team he has
been battling with in points all year had its team bikes duking it out.
Schumacher Racing’s Angelle Savoie beat her teammate Antron Brown for the
third time in finals in 2004.
Her win of 7.036/188.09 mph moved her into second place in the final
POWERade points standings over Brown, who shifted down to third.
In Pro Stock action, Greg Anderson continued to set the Pro Stock world on
fire. He recorded his 15th win of the season and once again defeated teammate
Jason Line in finals.
Sunday was Anderson and Line’s sixth meeting in finals.
Top Fuel action saw 2004 POWERade Top Fuel Dragster champion Tony Schumacher
take on young gun Morgan Lucas.
Lucas, who was making his second final round appearance in two races,
unfortunately blew a belt, relinquishing the chances at his first professional Top
Fuel career win.
The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series visited the Darlington Raceway in Darlington,
S.C., on Sunday for the second to last race of their 2004 race season.
Ringers supporting team, Penske Racing South and its drivers Brendan
Gaughan, Ryan Newman and Rusty Wallace, didn’t have the races they had hoped for.
Newman and his No. 12 ALLTEL Dodge had a good run going during the Southern
500, until lap 330 when his engine expired, ending yet another good run for
him and his team.
The remaining Penske teammates finished the race; Wallace in 18th and
Gaughan in 27th.
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series head to the Homestead-Miami Speedway for the season
finale next weekend.
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series’ race was rained out at Darlington on
Friday and was forced to run their race on Saturday after the NASCAR Busch Series
 race.
Ringers team Ultra Motorsports had Nextel Cup rookie Kasey Kahne piloting
their No. 2 Team ASE/Carquest Dodge in the Darlington 200.
Kahne, making his first Truck Series start, took the No. 2 to victory lane,
while teammate Ted Musgrave in the No. 1 Mopar Dodge brought his truck home
in third.
Orleans Racing, another Ringers supporting team, and driver Steve Park also
had a top-five finish in fifth place.
