Final Qualifying Results
Kurt Johnson Starts 15th in Pomona
Event: 40th annual Auto Club of Southern California Finals
Location: Pomona Raceway
Pomona, California
Day/Date: Saturday November 13, 2004
On the strength of a 6.766-second, 204.08-mph pass made during his first attempt on Thursday afternoon, Kurt Johnson qualified the ACDelco Cavalier in the fifteenth position for Sunday's final eliminations of the Auto Club of Southern California Finals. Ironically, even at the last race of the season, the team continued to work on new ways to improve their performance, with lessons learned during their four qualifying runs giving the team their game plan for Sunday.
"We made quite a few changes both in Las Vegas and here this weekend trying to pick up the pace, but unfortunately the car just didn't respond the way we wanted it to. We'll change the set-up back to where we were on Thursday, make a few adjustments based on what we've learned, and take it from there
"We know we'll be in the right lane, which has been significantly slower this weekend, so our work is cut out for us. We have some ideas on what we need to do to improve, and although some of the changes will have to wait until the off-season, we have a few things up our sleeves for tomorrow to hopefully help this ACDelco Cavalier close the year on a positive note."
