VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich., Nov. 12, 2004 -- Visteon Corporation , a leading, full-service automotive supplier of integrated in- vehicle technology solutions to automotive manufacturers worldwide, announces that the California Highway Patrol has begun implementation of its TACNET(TM) in-vehicle command and control solution.

Over the years, many electronic innovations have become invaluable to the public safety community. While this additional equipment has been extremely beneficial, it has also created challenges. With this in mind, Visteon developed TACNET, a unique product that integrates virtually all of the in- vehicle peripheral device controllers and electronics into a single, highly efficient command and control system that maximizes passenger compartment space and increases functionality.

The California Highway Patrol has been a development partner with Visteon for over two years, assisting with field testing and product refinement. The agency deployed 10 TACNET-equipped patrol cars in various areas across the state for more than a year and provided valuable feedback to the company while conducting its own feasibility testing. After this stringent evaluation process, CHP has adopted TACNET as the leading solution for the patrol vehicle environment.

Forty additional TACNET-equipped patrol vehicles were deployed in September with more expected in the first quarter of 2005. Future deployments may provide CHP with TACNET solutions for a variety of vehicles in their fleet, including motorcycles. In addition to controlling lights and siren, radar, radio and mobile data, the CHP will be adding an automated citation system to their vehicles that will also provide for remote control of the TACNET system.

One of next year's CHP builds will focus on patrol supervisor cars that will be equipped with multiple radios, all controlled through the TACNET system providing cross-band repeat and simulcast features, thus giving the agency a field deployed, interoperability solution.
