Delphi's Vast Capabilities in Multiple Connector Markets Prominently Highlighted in Munich at electronica 2004

Delphi Connection Systems to Introduce Product 'Firsts' at Biennial Trade Show for Electronic Components/Assemblies Industry

MUNICH, Germany, Nov. 9 -- Delphi Corporation's expertise in understanding and integrating electronics and complex systems with robust interconnect solutions is on full display here this week as part of electronica 2004, where it is showcasing its vast portfolio of available products and emerging technology.

A recognized global leader in the automotive industry, Delphi is displaying its growing capability to support market needs beyond transportation applications at the biennial electronica fair, the leading international trade show for components and assemblies in the electronics industry. Its booth (660 in Hall B4) in the New Munich Trade Fair Centre is a combination of interconnect technologies and process capabilities that illustrate the diversification of its Delphi Connection Systems business segment.

"We have had a tremendous history in connection systems and integration experience on which to build -- more than 100 years. It is allowing us to leverage that know-how into new directions, and to provide solutions and delivery technology where it has never been before," said Stefaan Vandevelde, managing director of Europe, Middle East and Africa for Delphi Packard Electric, the division in which Delphi Connection Systems operates.

That means bringing its vast portfolio -- 50,000+ part numbers in all -- to the nine distinctly different markets it serves. Be they off-the-shelf offerings or customized solutions, Delphi Connection Systems, the fourth- largest interconnect supplier globally, works with customers to offer full systems optimization, no matter the program.

"We have the unique ability at Delphi to provide complete systems integration capability, and our connection systems technology is at the heart of it," Vandevelde continued. "The processes, material expertise and engineering experience that have placed us as a dominant leader in transportation products give us the ability to provide creative and comprehensive solutions to numerous connector challenges."

That includes the computer and peripherals connector segment, an $8 billion market that continues to enjoy double-digit growth. Delphi Connection Systems is committed to maintaining a steady cadence of new-product introductions meeting industry standards in this market, and will be highlighting its newest portfolio additions at electronica 2004. Those include its PCI Express(TM) connectors and Double Data Rate 2, Dual In-Line Memory Module (DDR2-DIMM) sockets, both targeting integration into various desktop computer and server applications.

Delphi Connection Systems' drive to forge a more prominent role in supporting the highly specific needs of the computing market is witnessed in a product line-up that includes connection devices for such applications as disk drives, Serial ATA and SCSI arrays, mainframes, personal computers, and external storage devices, among others.

Other products slated for display at electronica 2004 include several high-performance interconnect products for the automotive industry, two of which are marking their official introduction, and another which is being reintroduced with market-differentiating performance characteristics:

Blocksealed Terminal System (BTS) -- A technology milestone for Delphi Connection Systems, BTS brings a 1.5mm solution to the market with a revolutionary layer seal concept for connectors. Delphi Connection Systems is the only interconnect company with this technology in the automotive marketplace.

Micro Terminal System 064 (MTS) -- Offered in tanged terminal and tangless designs (the latter for sealed applications), MTS 064 connectors target high- current and severe-vibration applications, and feature a unique two-stage contact geometry that reinforces reliability.

Ducon -- A long-time best-seller in the Delphi Connection Systems portfolio, the Ducon series is being reintroduced with the addition of a 9.5 mm (blade width) connector that allows for an industry-first application in this sector: the ability to crimp cable sizes up to 16 mm2.

In addition to the computer/peripherals and automotive markets, Delphi Connection Systems will demonstrate its expertise in providing diverse solutions with on-display solutions covering the telecom, portable communications, medical, aerospace and instrumentation segments, among others.

"We are committed to being a major force across all markets, something which is benefited greatly from our vast automotive experience and ability to understand and respond to unique interconnect challenges," said Business Line Executive Kevin Heigel. "No matter the market, our systems are designed and manufactured with the highest levels of reliability, performance and efficiency, all of which allow us to continue building customer confidence and placing us more prominently as the connector company of choice in any industry."

Additionally, Delphi Connection Systems will be joined by Power & Signal Group -- a dedicated global distributor of Delphi's interconnect products -- at the booth in Hall B4. Power & Signal has been a strategic distributor of Delphi connectors since 1982, and boasts more than 4,500 customers. Its entire line-up of available products is composed of Delphi connectors.

Delphi Connection Systems designs and manufactures advanced interconnect components that are used in computer & peripheral, telecom, broadcast, semiconductor, commercial aviation, medical, automotive and military markets.
