Late Wreck Foils Potential Top 10 Run For Hmiel, Team TRIMSPA in Phoenix
Phoenix, AZ (November 7, 2004) – Shane Hmiel ran in the top ten for the
majority of the Bashas’ Supermarket 200 at Phoenix International Raceway on
Saturday. Hmiel, who was driving his second race in the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge, was
spun from behind with three laps to go.
“We were just racing hard there in the end trying to get a good finish,”
said Hmiel. “I was a little loose off the turns and Harvick got into me. I hate
it for the TRIMSPA Team because we had a top 10 car.”
Hmiel qualified for the 200 lap event in the 11th position, but climbed into
ninth by the first pit stop on lap 36. After running in the top 10 for the
first 130 laps, Hmiel dropped to the 11th position by the final stop on lap
149. In the closing stages of the race, Hmiel was climbing back toward the top
ten after restarting 13th. However, a comeback was not in the making as a
bump from behind inside the final three laps relegated Hmiel to a 32nd-place
finish.
“The guys gave me three great fifteen second stops,” said Hmiel. “I hate it
for them most of all. But the good news is, this car was scheduled to have a
new 2005 Monte Carlo body hung on it, and we weren’t going to take it to the
track again this season. We are racing to win every time we go to the track.
We were a front runner again this weekend but sometimes you just don’t come
out on top.”
