Attorney Kevin Dean Joins Motley Rice LLC

Brings Auto Defect Experience to the Growing Transportation Team

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C., Nov. 5 -- Kevin R. Dean of Georgetown, South Carolina has joined Motley Rice LLC in Mount Pleasant, SC as a senior associate attorney. Dean practices in the areas of personal injury, professional malpractice, lender liability and product liability, and brings extensive experience in automotive defects and consumer protection. Prior to joining Motley Rice, Dean was a member at J. Edward Bell III LLC, in Georgetown, SC, where he was co-counsel in the first outside door handle inertial unlatching case upon discovery of a hidden and cancelled recall in 2000 by Ford Motor Company engineers and executives. Dean was also responsible for all pre-trial discovery, experts, trial preparations and courtroom computer trial presentations in an important 1998 seatbelt inertial unlatching case against General Motors Corporation.

Dean earned an associate's degree in criminal justice and a bachelor's degree in political science from Valdosta State University. He earned a J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He served as a Judicial Intern for Hon. Edward S. Smith, Senior Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Dean is licensed to practice law in the States of Georgia and South Carolina. He is a member of the bars of the United States District Courts for the Middle, Northern and Southern Districts of Georgia, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth and Eleventh Circuits, as well as the United States District Courts for South Carolina. He has been approved and admitted Pro Hac Vice in: Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Texas.

Dean served as an elected official as a County Commissioner in Early County, GA and has the distinguished honor of having been the youngest elected commissioner in this rural South Georgia County's history. He served five terms as a vice-president of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association. He is active in the American Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Associations, both the State Bar of Georgia and South Carolina and the First Baptist Church of Georgetown, SC. He is the author of The Right to Jury Trial in ERISA Civil Enforcement Actions, Vol. 15:1 American Journal of Trial Advocacy 157 and co-author of Dangerous Doors and Loose Latches, Journal of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
