"We are pleased to work with Sheriff Bouchard and his deputies, applying advanced technology to dramatically improve officer and public safety in Oakland County," said Greg Gyllstrom, Visteon's vice president and general manager aftermarket and glass North American operations. "We have applied our expertise to help improve emergency response capabilities for the good of law enforcement officers and citizens."
TACNET is an in-vehicle command and control system designed to improve public safety, officer safety, officer efficiency and interoperability while dramatically reducing police car interior clutter. The voice technology allows hands-free access to information while the touch screen and hand control pod accommodate on-the-job demands of a police officer. Visteon has carefully considered the needs of an officer, including the need for gloved hands in designing interface touch zones. Requests for mission critical functions to have redundant controls were also incorporated as well as ease of operation in extreme environments or during black out situations.
The ability to replace the current array of switches, microphones, buttons and brackets with an easy-to-use command system is the result of Visteon technology and the cooperation of its TACNET Alliance companies.
Alliance partnerships with key law enforcement technology suppliers allow Visteon to supply an integrated system that works with the equipment a police agency is already using. These partnerships also ensure TACNET's compatibility with the in-vehicle law enforcement equipment of the future.
In addition to working with leading law enforcement suppliers, Visteon will be collaborating with Oakland County Sheriff's Office to meet their specific needs. This collaboration is in addition to previous collaboration with several other police agencies including California Highway Patrol, Michigan State Police, Maryland State Police and Boston Police Department, and the Ontario Provincial Police -- all of which provided valuable officer field- test feedback.
