Peiker Settles Cellport Lawsuit; Acquires Worldwide License for Patented Telematics Technology

Cellport's Plug & Play Personal Telematics Architecture Issued to European Equipment Manufacturer for 2-Part Hands-Free Products

BOULDER, Colo., Oct. 28 -- Cellport Systems, creator of the wireless phone Personal Telematics patent portfolio, announced the company has reached a settlement with Peiker acustic GmbH & Co. KG, with the European equipment manufacturer becoming authorized to use Cellport's patented 2-part Plug & Play architecture for wireless hands-free systems. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Cellport's patented Plug & Play Personal Telematics architecture connects dozens of wireless phones to one standard docking platform for convenient hands-free use. Interchangeable phone adaptors snap directly into a vehicle's built-in system -- linking the phone's capabilities to the vehicle's resources.

"We are delighted to have reached a settlement with Peiker and to grant them worldwide licensing rights for our technology," said Pat Kennedy, Cellport CEO. "This enhanced relationship strengthens the entire hands-free Personal Telematics category -- and provides more motorists with a convenient way to use a wireless phone while driving."

Cellport's technology merges a wireless phone's voice, data and audio capabilities with a vehicle, providing convenient hands-free operation and entertainment system integration. The system provides a speaker, microphone, voice-activated dialing and external antenna for enhanced call clarity, while safely securing the phone. It also charges the phone, mutes the stereo/radio during a call and will include GPS/navigation and MP3 capabilities when these features are included.

"We are very pleased to receive worldwide licenses to use Cellport's 2-part hands-free technology as original equipment on vehicles and as after-market accessories," said Andreas Peiker, Chairman/CEO of Peiker. "With the growing popularity of worldwide hands-free use, the Cellport technology enables us to produce the most comprehensive platform on the market today."

The Cellport-pioneered Personal Telematics category continues to experience strong growth in the U.S. and Europe. Cellport projects that sales of the company's technology, delivered by its licensees to automotive manufacturers for end users, are expected to reach $850 million in 2004.

Peiker now joins other Cellport licensees including Motorola, Harman Becker, Cullmann and RayTel in using Cellport's technology to provide a new level of hands-free convenience in Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, Rover, Renault and other vehicles.
