Briggs & Stratton Corporation Announces Results of Annual Meeting

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 20, 2004 -- Briggs & Stratton Corporation :

Briggs and Stratton Corporation announced the following results of its Annual Meeting held today:

Shareholders reelected William F. Achtmeyer, David L. Burner and Mary K. Bush as directors to terms expiring in 2007.

Shareholders ratified the selection of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as the company's independent auditors.

Shareholders approved a proposal by the Board of Directors to double the number of authorized shares of common stock to 120 million shares. This will permit the company to proceed with a previously announced 2-for-1 stock split. The record date for the stock split is October 29, and distribution of the split shares will occur on November 9.

A proposal to amend and restate the Briggs & Stratton Corporation Incentive Compensation Plan was also approved by shareholders.
