Nissan, TeamRTR Rally to 2nd Place Finish at Laguna Seca; Nissan Finishes Strong Third in Season's Manufacturers' Standings

MONTEREY, Calif.--Oct. 19, 2004--Despite a collision with the Turn 6 tire wall on a damp track, Peter Cunningham came back to finish a strong second in his No. 4 NISMO/TeamRTR Nissan Sentra Spec V at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, ending the season in fifth place overall in the SCCA SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Championship Driver standings.

Nissan finished the season third overall in the SCCA SPEED Touring Car Manufacturers' Championship points standings and Cunningham was awarded the Air Force Reserve Pole Position Award for the 2004 season.

Cunningham, who started the race on the inside of row two, held second until running into trouble on lap 13. Suddenly in fifth position after the incident, Cunningham regained his composure and quickly regained two spots to sit third. Cunningham moved into second place on lap 21 when the race leader slid off the wet track.

Cunningham's finish was his fifth podium finish this season, including a wire-to-wire victory August 21 at Road America. In just the second season of the partnership between Nissan and TeamRTR, Cunningham finished fifth in the Driver's Championship points, including one victory, five second or thirds and six top-five finishes.

SPEED Channel televised the race on Sunday Oct. 17 and will rebroadcast it Thursday Oct. 21, 2004 at 4 a.m. EST.
