Delphi Introduces Smart Service System Process

DS Series of advanced diagnostic products gets version 5.0 software upgrade

TROY, Mich., Oct. 19 -- Delphi Corp. announced today the introduction of Delphi's Smart Service System, an enhanced workshop management process and Version 5.0 software for the DS Series of products, including the DS800 and the DS600. With a new icon-driven user interface, the Smart Service System makes it easier for customers to navigate and support multiple languages for use on a global basis. In addition, this new user interface facilitates the integration and adoption of the process in the automotive repair center.

The DS Platform is a state-of-the-art, wireless, integrated system that applies business and diagnostic management processes to automotive repair facilities. Delphi incorporated the latest Microsoft(R) technology called .NET in the Version 5.0 software release -- the most dramatic change to the product since its launch in 2002.

"Version 5.0 together with the continual updates of Delphi's Tables of Known Good allows the technician to use the Drivers Seat Diagnostic Process in over 90% of the top 500 platforms on the road, domestic and import," said Russ Bailey, Managing Director, Delphi Integrated Service Solutions, part of Delphi Product & Service Solutions. "The DS Platform's enhanced functionality based on .NET architecture will provide our customers with even faster responses, improved security, and overall performance of the product."

Delphi's series of products have become extremely robust in support of the automotive repair center's business and service operations. Delphi's Version 5.0 software incorporates new vehicle data bus interface (VDBI) hardware and software that supports the new generation of vehicles that utilize the CAN vehicle bus technology, as well as legacy OBDII equipped vehicles. This is supplied by Ease Diagnostics, an automotive industry leader in PC based diagnostic solutions. As part of Delphi's continuing commitment to current DS Series customers, the generic OBDII hardware and software update is being provided at no additional charge.

The addition of the Ease OBDII software and hardware prepares Delphi customers for the future by enabling diagnostic communication with CAN vehicles and providing Delphi with the opportunity to offer enhanced OBDII scan tool packages, including wireless communication and vehicle reprogramming capabilities, to the portfolio of value-added options for the DS800 platform.

"We are providing a high-tech process to the automotive repair shop owners to enable increased revenue through customer satisfaction and increased productivity," Bailey said. "The use of Delphi's Drivers Seat Diagnostics process and the Ease Scan Tool options are designed to further enable decreased diagnostic times, increase customer confidence, and reduce bottlenecks and comebacks."

Version 5.0 adds another level of enhancement to Delphi's Drivers Seat Diagnostics (DSD) process by providing the technician with additional flexibility when displaying diagnostic repair information. The diagnostic information can be presented all at once, or the technician can follow a guided path, getting the right information at the time the information is required. The goal of Delphi's guided DSD process is to give the technician control of the information flow. Depending on the technician's need, he can manage how the diagnostic data is displayed.

Delphi continues to focus on providing the independent aftermarket with OE quality vehicle electronics, such as emission components, engine management parts, Delphi Freedom(R) batteries, fuel system parts and thermal components. Delphi replacement parts are supported by industry-leading services, training and component level technical assistance with Delphi TechSource and enhanced by Delphi DS Series diagnostic products, including the DS800 wireless handheld diagnostic tool.
