October 17, 2004: Ringers Gloves Weekend Wrap-up: Charlotte

 RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP
Lots of Action in Charlotte Under the Lights

Indianapolis – (October 18, 2004) The Concord (NC) area was booming the
past week and weekend with racing as four major racing series, United States
Auto Club (USAC), American Speed Association (ASA), NASCAR Busch Series and
Nextel Cup Series, wowed crowds at The Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and
the Lowe’s Motor Speedway racing facilities.
Racing action started on Wednesday night at The Dirt Track at Lowe’s Motor
Speedway as the stars of USAC took to the track.
Ringers driver Bud Kaeding started out his night by qualifying 10th in the
USAC Valvoline National Sprint Car Series for the Mopar Sprint Car Nationals.
Kaeding finished fifth in his heat race, one spot out of the automatic
transfer spot. He was forced to run the semi feature and finished third.
Unfortunately Kaeding’s night ended early in the Mopar Sprint Car Nationals
feature event. A cut tire forced him to the backstretch for repairs and he
wasn’t able to make it out in time for the restart. Kaeding posted a 21st
place finish.
On Thursday, the ASA National Tour made their series debut under the lights
at the Lowe’s Motor Speedway for the Aaron’s 99 presented by Jani-King.
2003 Pat Schauer Rookie of the Year winner and Ringers supporter Reed
Sorenson picked up his first ASA National Tour career win in front of Busch Series
car owner, Chip Ganassi.
Ringers racer Todd Kluever was on his way to a fourth place finished when he
was involved in an incident with Kyle Krisiloff.
Kluever walked away from the wreck, but his car suffered severe damage and
posted a 10th place finish.
Other Ringers notables in the field were Butch Miller, 11th; Peter
Cozzolino, 14th; John Dalziel, 18th; Kevin Cywinski, 19th; Mike Garvey, 27th; Rich
Loch, 31st and Toby Porter, 37th.
The ASA National Tour wraps up their season at the Atlanta Motor Speedway
October 29.
The NASCAR Busch Series lit up the night Friday during Lowe’s presents The
SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300.
The Ringers team of Joe Nemechek and NEMCO Motorsports started the race
sixth, but only 39 laps into the race, Nemechek caught air off Casey Mears’
spoiler while passing for the lead and hit the wall ending his night. He
recorded a 43rd place finish.
Saturday night saw the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series drivers battle is out for
500 miles during the UAW-GM Quality 500.
Ryan Newman and his No. 12 ALLTEL Dodge shattered the track record on
Thursday by three-tenths of a second and put his Penske Racing South team on the
pole for the race.
Newman lead 28 laps throughout the race, but on lap 312 while he was passing
Mark Martin for second, was caught up in a wreck that caused damage on his
car and ended his chances of taking home his third win of the season.
Newman held on for a 14th place finish. He now sits ninth place in the
Chase for the Championship points.
Newman’s Penske Racing South teammates Brendan Gaughan and Rusty Wallace
also didn’t have the finishes they were looking for.
Wallace got caught up in Jeff Gordon’s spin early on and salvaged a 31st
place finish.
Gaughan was caught up in a couple wrecks himself, one of those being the lap
312 wreck with teammate, Ryan Newman. Gaughan finished 23rd.
The Nextel Cup Series and Penske Racing South head to Martinsville, Va.,
