AUTOSAR Technical Paper Presentation to Highlight Creation of Open Standard for Automotive Electric/Electronics Architecture

DETROIT--Oct. 18, 2004--Automotive Open System Architecture (AUTOSAR), an industry-supported initiative to standardize electric/electronic (E/E) architecture, will be presenting a technical paper at the Convergence(R) 2004 Conference at Cobo Center in Detroit. The presentation will discuss automotive electric/electronic (E/E) architecture's potential and the current status of a globally standardized software architecture infrastructure. Utilizing this new standard the exchange of applications between OEMs and their suppliers will open up new forms of cooperative development.

"Automotive Open System Architecture (AUTOSAR): An Industry-wide Initiative to manage the Complexity of Emerging Automotive E/E Architectures" will be presented by Prof. Harald Heinecke of BMW AG. The session takes place Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004 in Room 02-33 between 2 - 5 p.m. as part of the Systems Architecture: Software session.

AUTOSAR's goals include standardizing central architectural elements across functional domains, such as powertrain, chassis, safety and telematics. This will help increase reuse and exchangeability of software modules between OEMs and their suppliers, allowing for improved management of highly integrated E/E architectures.

Registered Convergence media are invited to visit the AUTOSAR Media Hospitality Suite, located in Room D3-26, throughout the conference. Spokesperson Prof. Harald Heinecke of BMW and Deputy Spokesperson Jean-Luc Mate of Siemens VDO Automotive, as well as other AUTOSAR representatives, will be available for individual interviews.

AUTOSAR is an initiative performed by a worldwide cooperation of automotive OEMs, suppliers, software houses, tool vendors and the semiconductor industry. The core partners of AUTOSAR are BMW Group, Bosch, Continental Automotive Systems, DaimlerChrysler, Ford Motor Company, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Siemens VDO Automotive, Toyota Motor Corporation and Volkswagen AG.
