Siemens VDO Automotive Convergence Presentations Tackle Product Development Lifecycle and Component Supply Issues

DETROIT--Oct. 18, 2004--Siemens VDO Automotive highlights its continued commitment to exceeding customers' expectations with two technical paper presentations during Convergence(R) 2004 Conference at Cobo Center in Detroit October 18 - 20, 2004. The theme of this year's automotive electronics conference is "Vehicle Electronics to Digital Mobility: The Next Generation of Convergence."

"As the electronics in automobiles become more sophisticated, suppliers are challenged to provide efficient and cost-effective solutions that provide value to the automakers and car buyers," said Siemens VDO Automotive president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Sanderson. "Our presentations illustrate the contributions being made by Siemens VDO Automotive to supply value through electronics advancements in the automotive industry."

For example, the integration of consumer-driven mobile devices in the automotive environment poses hardware and software challenges for engineers. Siemens VDO Automotive will highlight concept studies that help bridge the gap between consumer and automotive life cycles with the company's comprehensive solution offerings during the "Transformational Challenges in the Automotive Infotainment Industry: Are We Up for IT?" technical paper presentation on Tuesday, Oct. 19, as part of the Business Process Transformations Needed session.

In addition, the availability of semiconductor components to cover the demand for service parts is crucial to meeting the needs of customers. Siemens VDO Automotive has developed a framework to summarize the conditions and challenges governing these parts supplies. The resulting mathematical model will be discussed during the presentation of "Quantitative Methodology as a Means to Ensure Supply Continuity of Service Parts for Automotive Electronics" as part of the Supply Chain Management in a Digital World session on Monday, Oct. 18, 2004.

The two technical paper presentations are part of Siemens VDO Automotive's continuing participation in the bi-annual automotive electronics show. The company also is exhibiting its next generation of innovations at booth 1227 and is this year's Registration sponsor.
