Toyota Announces Prices for All-New 2005 Tacoma Pickup Truck Line
TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 15, 2004 -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., announced manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the all-new 2005 Tacoma pickup truck line which begin arriving at dealerships nationwide this month.
The all-new Tacoma pickup truck line built at the New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) production facility in Fremont, Calif., features a wide selection of models that are larger, more maneuverable, more powerful, and more fuel-efficient than the compact trucks they replace.
Eighteen Tacoma model configurations are available, based on three cab types -- Regular Cab, extended Access Cab and the four-door Double Cab.
The Tacoma line offers 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains, plus the popular PreRunner models that combine 4x2 drivetrain with the raised riding stance and styling of the 4x4 models.
Two engines are featured on the 2005 Tacoma line: a new 2.7-liter VVT-i DOHC four-cylinder engine that produces 164 horsepower and 183 lb-ft. of torque, and a revised 4.0-liter VVT-i DOHC V6 that produces 245 horsepower and 282 lb-ft. of torque (replacing the 190-hp 3.4-liter V6 in the 2004 models). Both feature a new Electronic Throttle Control System with intelligence (ETCS-i) that helps improve performance and fuel economy.
On the V6 engine, two new transmissions are offered, a six-speed manual and a five-speed automatic. The four-cylinder models offer a choice between a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission.
Tacoma features a new integrated hitch and bumper design. Properly equipped, the V6-powered Tacoma models can tow up to 6,500 pounds, a 30-percent increase over the 5,000-lb towing capacity of the 2004 V6 models.
Standard equipment on all Tacomas includes a new composite inner bed. The bed features a new sheet-molded compound (SMC) deck and walls that are 10 percent lighter than steel, yet tougher and more durable. The bed deck features two-tier loading and integrated deck rail utility that includes four standard adjustable tie-down cleats.
The well-equipped Regular Cab model includes anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD) and brake assist (BA), a full-size spare tire, AM/FM CD four-speaker sound system, tachometer, digital clock, two instrument panel powerpoints with a lighter, a coolant temperature gauge, fuel warning light, dome lamp and rear mudguards as standard equipment.
Base MSRPs for Tacoma Regular Cab models range from $13,415 for the 4x2 4-cylinder with a manual transmission to $17,360 for the 4x4 4-cylinder with manual transmission.
The all-new Tacoma Access Cab, which replaces the Xtracab model, features large dual rear access doors. Access Cab standard features include bucket seats and a center console. Interior storage is maximized with tumble-flat rear seats and underseat storage.
Tacoma Access Cab models have a base MSRP of $16,855 for the 4x2 four- cylinder with manual transmission, while 4x4 V6 automatic transmission models carry an MSRP of $23,125.
Double Cab models feature upgraded seat fabric and power windows, mirrors and door locks as standard equipment. Double Cab models also have additional storage behind the rear seatback and the front passenger seat folds flat, converting into a tray table. The rear doors are more than three inches longer than before and open to 80 degrees to give passengers easier access.
The 2005 Tacoma Double Cab carries a base MSRP of $21,675 for Pre-Runner V6 automatic transmission models with a short bed. 4x4 Double Cab models with a V6 engine, automatic transmission and a long bed have an MSRP of $25,250.
Leading the Tacoma line in performance and style is the exciting X-Runner model that offers sports car performance and a specially tuned chassis. The X-Runner is aimed at buyers looking for street performance. A true performance truck factory-developed as a separate-and-dedicated model, the new X-Runner showcases the Tacoma line's new 245-horsepower 4.0-liter V6 engine and an exclusive six-speed manual transmission.
The X-Runner name is derived from its exclusive "X-braced" reinforced frame that provides enhanced torsional rigidity. The X-Runner's Access Cab design incorporates full-vehicle-surround ground effects, a hood scoop and integrated fog lamps.
The X-Runner suspension was lowered one inch versus the standard Tacoma frame and rolls on 255/45R18 Bridgestone Potenza performance tires wrapped around 18-inch alloy wheels. Exclusive X-Runner suspension incorporates firmer and shorter springs, specially tuned Bilstein gas shock absorbers positioned outboard of the frame rails for increased stability, rear stabilizer bar with firmer bushings and specially tuned steering response.
