SRS Labs Showcases Its Portfolio of Automotive Audio Technology Solutions at Convergence 2004 in Detroit

Key Demonstrations Include Circle Surround(R) Automotive and TruSurround XT(R) Headphone

DETROIT, Oct. 15 -- SRS Labs, Inc. , a leading provider of innovative audio, voice and semiconductor technology solutions, will be showcasing its wide range of surround sound and audio enhancement solutions for the automotive markets at the Convergence Conference I, Detroit, Michigan from Oct. 18-20. Convergence, an event sponsored by the Ford Motor Company, attracts the leading manufacturers of electronics equipment for the automotive market. SRS Labs' booth #433 will feature demonstrations of the company's key automotive solutions, including Circle Surround(R) Automotive, TruSurround XT(R) Headphone for rear-seat entertainment systems, and the award-winning WOW(TM) audio enhancement technology that includes SRS TruBass(R) and SRS FOCUS(R) technologies.

Automobiles have become private mobile listening rooms, complete with surround sound and rear seat DVD entertainment systems. Given that most vehicles come standard with multiple speakers, they offer a perfect surround sound listening environment. While the goal of an automotive entertainment system is to deliver the same high quality experience that consumers enjoy in their living rooms from their home theater systems, the interior of a car presents unique audio challenges, including non-optimally placed speakers and limited bass performance caused by small speaker drivers due to space constraints. SRS Labs has overcome these difficulties and has developed a suite of technologies that greatly enhance the automotive presentation of everything from two-channel stereo, to rear-seat DVD entertainment, to home-theater quality 6.1 surround sound. These technology breakthroughs enable automakers and third-party consumer electronics manufacturers to deliver the most feature-rich, customizable surround sound and audio enhancement technologies available on the market today for car entertainment systems.

"We are pleased to expand our technology offerings of surround sound and audio enhancement solutions to the automobile market," said Todd Goulart, SRS Labs account executive. "With the increased use of DSPs in vehicle sound systems, SRS technologies can be easily integrated into existing headunit, amplifier, and rear-seat entertainment systems to provide surround sound playback and enhanced sound experience. The integration of SRS technologies into the automotive environment is a natural extension from our strengths in other consumer electronics products, and will become a growth segment for SRS technology propagation."

SRS Labs will be providing the following demonstrations at Convergence 2004:

   *  Circle Surround ("CS") Automotive
      Most cars have multiple speakers, which make them an ideal listening
      environment for surround sound. However, standard car audio systems
      deliver stereo content through redundant pairs of speakers placed in
      non-optimal locations in relation to the passengers. In addition, the
      majority of audio content from radio, CDs, and tapes is designed to
      deliver one or two channels of audio. SRS CS Automotive allows the
      multiple speakers to deliver a true surround sound experience. It
      does not require the audio to be encoded in surround sound, but
      actually creates up to 6.1 channels of distinct information for each
      vehicle speaker from any audio source. This provides an audio
      soundstage that puts the passengers in the middle of the music. In
      addition, CS Automotive contains TruBass and FOCUS, two enhancement
      techniques that can be customized to solve the unique audio challenges
      of the automotive environment, such as the placement of speakers in
      less than ideal locations and lower than the plane of the listeners'
      ear, physical size restrictions resulting in small speaker drivers
      that are incapable of delivering satisfying bass, and multiple seating
      positions that are normally quite close to the speaker locations.
      Circle Surround is also an encoding surround technology and top
      broadcasters in the U.S. and abroad, including HD Radio, which is the
      standard for digital radio broadcasting in the U.S., Tokyo FM, and
      Guangdong Radio have adopted Circle Surround encoding as their
      standard multichannel encode/decode format.

   *  TruSurround XT Headphone
      Rear seat DVD players are fast becoming a standard feature in family
      vehicles. TruSurround XT Headphone is the ideal enhancement solution
      as it creates a stunning virtual surround sound experience over any
      pair of headphones from any DVD. For CD or music playback, it creates
      a thrilling 3D stereo headphone experience. Based upon SRS Labs'
      original TruSurround technology, the next generation TruSurround XT
      also includes the unique features of SRS Dialog Clarity(TM), which
      dramatically clarifies speech during passages that contain dynamic
      surround sound effects, and SRS TruBass, a psychoacoustic bass
      enhancement technology that provides deep, rich bass down to an octave
      lower than the physical limitations of the speakers.

   *  SRS WOW
      WOW is a complete technology solution for the enhancement of any audio
      material over a two to four speaker system. It creates a remarkable
      stereo experience by providing a wide 3D stereo image, bass
      enhancement and sound elevation techniques that can be tuned for any
      combination of the front or rear speakers.

   *  SRS TruBass
      TruBass is a patented psychoacoustic bass enhancement technology that
      provides deep rich bass, replacing the need for a subwoofer and
      reducing cost. It can be applied to the LFE channel to deliver even
      richer bass with a subwoofer system or can be applied to the speakers.
      (TruBass can be licensed as part of Circle Surround Automotive or
      WOW.)

   *  SRS FOCUS
      In the vast majority of automobiles, the speakers are not placed
      directly in front of the listener, creating a challenge to deliver a
      satisfying audio experience. SRS FOCUS solves this problem and
      electronically elevates the sound image without physically moving the
      speakers from the door. It also eliminates the need for tweeters,
      becoming a compelling cost savings tool. (FOCUS can be licensed as
      part of WOW.)
