Cummins Power Generation Awarded Contract to Design Generator Sets for U.S. Army

FRIDLEY, Minn.--Oct. 1, 20044, 2004--Cummins Power Generation, a division of Cummins Inc. , has been selected by the United States Army as one of two companies to design mobile power generation units. The first phase of the AMMPS (Advance Medium-sized Mobile Power Sources) program will begin in the fourth quarter of 2004 with both companies creating independent prototypes.

Once the prototypes have been submitted, the Army will select one design for production to provide units to support the military around the world. Phase two, the production phase, could result in 10 years of sales of the selected units to the Department of Defense.

Cummins Power Generation, headquartered near Minneapolis, Minn., is one of the largest suppliers of power generation units for back-up and mobile power systems. The U.S. Army power generation sets, AMMPS, will be the next generation of "Tactical Quiet Generators" used by the Department of Defense to supply power wherever and whenever needed by our soldiers.

"We're proud and excited to be selected as a finalist from a very competitive group of companies," said Tom Linebarger, President of Cummins Power Generation. "We believe we can offer the Army a high performance product at an effective cost, based on 77 years of experience in the power generation business.

"Cummins Power Generation is delighted to be part of the AMMPS program and we are committed to providing the Department of Defense with the best possible solution. Our efforts under this program will focus on fuel efficiency, weight/noise reduction, and reliability, while meeting all EPA requirements. We are also committed to using commercial off-the-shelf technology and providing comprehensive service and support," said Linebarger.
