Cirrus Logic ARM9 Embedded Processor Offers Outstanding User Interface Features For Cost-Sensitive Networked Applications

HONG KONG--Oct. 1, 20043, 2004--

EP9307 Embedded Processor Gives System Designers Total Chip Solution: Processing Power, Graphics Engine, Touch-screen, High-Quality Audio

Cirrus Logic Inc. today announced the EP9307, the newest addition to its Nine-Series(TM) embedded processor family. This highly integrated ARM9-based IC features an impressive 200 MHz of processing power along with a rich set of user-interface features that are ideal for cost-sensitive networked applications, such as gaming machines, point-of-sale terminals, home automation systems and automotive navigation systems.

"The EP9307 gives system designers a winning combination of raw power and integrated graphics and networking support features that can dramatically lower their overall bill-of-material costs," said John Delfeld, director, Embedded Products Marketing, Cirrus Logic. "The EP9307 joins Cirrus Logic's four other Nine-Series embedded processor ICs, giving our customers highly integrated systems-on-chip solutions with a wide array of price, integration and performance selections. The EP9307 offers the speed and flexibility benefits required for demanding embedded applications in which superb graphics handling ability, intelligent user interface and lower costs are essential."

Supplementing the EP9307's horsepower, the IC features a 2D graphics accelerator that significantly improves graphics performance and high-quality sound in multiple audio configurations. It also supports LCD sizes up to XGA (1024 X 768 pixels), which is significantly larger than many competing embedded ICs. These features are important for today's embedded applications that increasingly require a rich multimedia user interface. For example, many point of sales terminals now also function as advertising kiosks or self-serve terminals that incorporate video, touch screen and high-quality audio. The EP9307 enables these applications at low cost and low power.

Cirrus Logic's Nine-Series embedded processors are provided with all the necessary driver software, as well as Linux and Microsoft's(R) Windows(R) CE .NET operating systems, which are optimized and fully supported by an in-house Cirrus Logic software development and support team.

Pricing and Availability

The EP9307 is available in a 272-pin TFBGA package, priced at $12.74 in volumes of 10,000. Cirrus Logic's Nine-Series embedded processor ICs include the EP9301, EP9302, EP9312 and the flagship EP9315.
